looking for a new jig.  here's the criteria.

1.  head design does not really matter.  bullet, football head, whatever.

2.  weight - 1/2 - 5/8 oz. range.

3.  must have a strong, sharp (preferably superline) hook to keep from  being jacked on braid hooksets.

4.  must cost under 3 bucks.

5.  must have a recessed line tie.

closest i have come to this is thinking about buying a pack of picasso ken cook fantasy football heads and just making up my own jigs.  but i am uncertain about the strength of the hook on these though.  does anyone have any feedback on the picasso heads or ideas about other baits that meet all the criteria above.  any help is much appreciated.  i have gotten spoiled to using the recessed eye jigs b/c they come through the wood i fish so much easier but these type of jigs are pretty pricey.  thanks very much for any help or input.

Not sure on the hook type, but GMAN's jigs fit the bill for me.  At 2.25 or less for wire tied (3/4 to 1 1/2 are 2.50) they definately fit number 4.

Well, if you're gonna be that picky then I'd just go to *** and stock up on terminator's at 3.49.

Davis Bait Co. Paca jig almost fits the bill.  Cost is a little higher than you specify.

Here is the best I think you will find. Is this recessed enough? I have pulled ten pounders out of hydrilla growing up fifteen feet tall from the bottom with this jig and the hook can't be bent. The line will break first. It's a little over three dollars but worth it. The Grass Stalker can be found at www.unclejosh.com and they may sell them at Tackle Warehouse also.

Paul Jigs are super easy to make. I could teach anybody to make one in about 5 min. If you cant find your exact jig then make them. Look up Do-it molds and find a mold that fits your needs. You can hand pick your hooks too. Paint the head and buy a bunch of premade skirts. I am not kidding about how easy it is. If you do try it(or anybody else here) and you have any questions along the way just ask. I can walk you through it.

Big +1 - - you could teach a one-handed monkey to make jigs.  Learn to make them yourself and you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner!

Of course, I go through jigs like candy (craggy Ozarks rock).   I was either going to go bankrupt buying $3-4 a piece jigs or learn to make them myself.

X2.  The Grass Stalker is an awesome jig and it has a hook and a half on it.  You won't be disappointed with it.

The Terminators are great except for the paint as Burley said. It has become my main jig. The hook, head, and trailer keeper are just great. I would stay away from the Evolution jigs, get caught up way too much for my liking. The head is just too big and the weedguard does nothing.

Now don't be making accurate assesments of the sponsors products.  

I got a couple of them when they did the free give away last spring when they first came out.  First cast hung and lost never even bothered throwing the other one.
