YNCBASSMAN Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 went fishing the other day on my way home from work and hit up a rentention pond off of I95. usually it's a decent place to fish, my wife got a 7lber out of there a couple years ago. but on this trip i only got 2 dinks. i was fishing a shallow flat and i swear i threw everything in the tackle box and finally got the 2 on pumpkinseed senkos. i hate it when you think you have everything figured out as far as weather, time of year, colors, etc. and nothing produces. i'm starting to think the only thing i'm good at throwing anymore is a senko!! here's a pic of what i was fishing. :'( Quote
Red Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Trust me its not cuz your on the bank. I am off the bank now and still have trouble. Actually so far this year I have only caught one dink from my boat, everything else has come from bank fishing, including my new PB Quote
tnbassfisher Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I wish we had grass like that around here! Quote
YNCBASSMAN Posted March 10, 2010 Author Posted March 10, 2010 i've fished this pond in a boat before and my wife and i both have done really good. it's pretty big for a retention pond. it was a frustrating day for sure. with that said, any day that i can get out of the house or office and make a few casts, it makes me feel human again and thankful for every cast!! IwillChooseFreeWill Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 It may be the cooler weather have kept them deeper this year and only a few random movers were close enough to get caught. Quote
TheBeast Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 You were probably using the wrong gear for Florida. You need 20 lb. Pline CXX and a spinning outfit and forget the senko's use hotdogs. Quote
YNCBASSMAN Posted March 10, 2010 Author Posted March 10, 2010 don't know about the hot dogs, but i do use 20lb powerpro on a shimano symetre and bps extreme rod. i might have to try a hot dog next time the fishing is that tough, lol. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted March 11, 2010 Super User Posted March 11, 2010 Fishing has been really slow for me down here as well. Sure I've caught some, some were large fish. For the most part though, the numbers are way down for this time of the year for me. The cold fronts coming through have just killed the fishing, at least thats what I'm blaming. Gotta love the fact that another front is coming through today.... Quote

Agree 100% I can't even get a flipping bite in shallow ponds going...so whats up with that.Totally screwed up this year. > I am just holding on to the hope that all hell will break loose once this unusually cold water warms up. Surface temps here were in the very low 70's during the day yesterday and down to the upper 60's at night. Scary to realize that that is fairly cool water. The best part...next month is traditionally the rainy part of the year...YAY! So long as we get stable weather I'll be happy. Quote
YNCBASSMAN Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 i don't mind the front coming through this weekend. my wife is going in to labor so i won't be fishing anyways, lol. tight lines and bent poles to all those fishing this weekend, catch one for me!! Quote

Shimmer Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I don't have a boat, but for me that makes it all the more fun. It's a challenge to get to some spots and sometimes it's worth the effort! Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted March 12, 2010 Super User Posted March 12, 2010 It's been tough on me this year to. Cold muddy water makes it tough. Picking up though now with the warmer weather and clearing water. Keep after them. Quote
YNCBASSMAN Posted March 13, 2010 Author Posted March 13, 2010 Thanks!! It's my 3rd kid, so it ain't nothing new. We almost have our 2 year old potty trained and our 13 year old has almost got showering on a regular basis down. I guess it was time for another one. Quote
