I.rar Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 decided to go out for a few hours since the weather is super nice today. finally got to try out some new tackle as well. i managed three peacocks on a 4" DT hula grub (great baits!!) the largest being around 2.5 lbs and one small pea on a taquila sunrise zoom u-tail. around 1:30ish, the action died off. i switched to a small spinner bait , shaky head with a giggy stick , and even tried a tiny torpedo with no luck. i then went to another lake in the area , and they didnt want anything to do with what i had. mental notes from today - p-line cxx is great on a casting reel. spinning is a big no-no with this line imo. the fenwick eagle gt rods that cabelas had on clearance for $29.99 are a steal. and the DT hula grub is an awesome bait hopped/dragged on the bottom. i was using a 3/16oz unpegged weight with a 1/0 ewg hook for the 4". Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted February 6, 2010 Super User Posted February 6, 2010 I wanted to go out today. It's beautiful outside except for the 30 mile an hour winds we've got in my area right now. It's nice to know the fish are active again though. Quote

RedhookRR Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 the fenwick eagle gt rods that cabelas had on clearance for $29.99 are a steal. Just got a eagle gt light rod today for 24.99 (was regular 64.99) from a regional sports store (210 miles round trip). Can't wait for spring thaw to get out and try it and my HMG MH rod that I got last month for 49.99 out. Hope that you enjoy yours and the warmer weather. Jon Quote

Jon i picked up the 6'6" MH 2 piece casting rod. i was planning on using it for more of a 'beater' rod , but i actually like it more than i thought i would. i remember seeing the HMG's for cheap , but money > bait monkey. I.rar Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 went out today and landed a dinker pea (DT hula grub 8-) ) that i had to do the hook removal technique through the gill. though it took me longer than i thought it would and the fish lost some blood , it was able to swim away. after that i lost another small pea. went to the other spot and had hooked what seemed to be a 4lb largemouth on a 3.5" bass majic swimbait. all was great untill it threw the hook. so i stayed out a little longer , cought a tan , and called it a day. Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted February 7, 2010 Super User Posted February 7, 2010 You and I need to hook up one day, Sqhertz. We gotta go pound the banks somewhere. One area I keep meaning to hit is the large Canal on Griffin Road. I drive past it and see what could be some prime spots, but I never manage to go there with a rod in hand. Quote
Krzkev Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I haven't fished that canal for a long time, but I hear it has snook, tarpon, and tons of Peas in it. I see mullet jumping around in there all the time. It is heavily fished by the bucket brigade. Quote
