Bass_Akwards Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 What do you remember most about the best day you've ever had on the water, fishing for largemouth bass? Maybe you caught nothing, but had the best time ever, and maybe you caught a 17 pounder. What happened on your "perfect day?" Can't wait to read some of your stories. Quote
Tucson Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Got two in mind: A couple years ago I took my boat and cat to Florida for a month. My buddy from Tampa joined me, talked me into going way up into a shallow channel about 3 feet deep. First cast he got snagged (double tail hula grub) and the snag started running. He pulled out a 6-1/2 lb LM, he tossed out his hula grub to show me where he caught it and wham, immediate pickup and now he's got a 7-1/2 lber. I know I'll never live it down if he outfishes me so I cast out my HG and wound up with a fat sassy bass @ 8lbs 10oz. (PB) 2nd trip: Last Spring I was fishing my home lake (Roosevelt AZ) in some shallow (6') water in some heavy extensive brush and landed 49 bass that one day. Far and away my highest score. Quote
aarogb Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 My "Best Day Ever" was back in September of this year at Shearon Harris lake in North Carolina. Me and my dad got to the lake at about 6:45 a.m. and we took off to a cove that had a matted grass point and I started throwing a Lucky Craft G-Splash popper. About my third cast into the day, a see a HUGE blowup on my G-Splash and its my new PB, a 6-7 lber. Although it definetly wasn't a numbers day (that was the only fish I caught) it was my "Best Day Ever". Quote
SWMIBASSER Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Most of my best days ever were years ago when my dad brother and I went fishing together all the time. Best times since then was on the lake I am on now, I followed one breakline, and pulled in about 20 fish in about 30-40 minutes. All on a deep diving crankbait. Another time on a small local lake, was the same kind of thing. A little less action but hauled in a 5lber. This from a lake with a 10" limit because it's perceived to have to many small fish (I've got plenty of other quality fish out of this lake) Another good day, I was fishign with my brother. I have been quite a bit the last couple years. And he was getting the best of my most times. Partly because I was always in the back and partly because I would avoid tactics I knew would work to try and learn new techniques. One day I decided to just take the front deck with him, pitched jigs and hard jerkbaits and made him look bad..... ;D Quote
simplejoe Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 My best day ever would be. I was 5 and my pap had a camp up Lake Arthur he loved to fish and we spent alot of time out on the water. One day he woke me up very early and said "let's get out on the water". I was confused me being so young I didn't understand why we were going so early. So I went and he rigged up my rod for me with a worm and he tied on a popper on his rod. After that I seen why he wanted to go fishing we catching fish after fish after fish. The both of us were laughing and having a good ol' time. It lasted a few hours and he said " let's go back there going to worried about us since we didn't tell anybody we were leaving". On the way back were talking and I said " pap your a good fisherman" and he said " I may be good but you started out early you'll be a great fisherman and I'll even help you out." He stopped the canoe and reached into his tacklebox and handed me some of his lures and a couple wooden bobbers and then turned around to his fishing rod and cut the popper off and handed it to me. I thought that was the greatest thing in the world. A week later he died by a heart attack. I quit fishing for 12 years after that until my dad bought a pontoon boat and made me go fishing. Oh yeah, I still have his lures he gave me and never used them he was the last one to catch a fish off of them. I made a wooden display and hung it on the wall in the dining room. Everytime my dad comes over I catch him standing there starring at the lures. My other good day was- I went out to this house a guy was building to do a bid for the flooring and there was a pond on the land so I asked the guy if there were any fish in it and he said I don't think so I just bought the land. I won the bid and I was back to install the Hardwood floor. I took an early day that day and went up to the pond to scope it out when I was walking around the pond I noticed alot of bluegill scattering from the bank. I said OH Yeah. Next day we went in early and quit early to do some fishing. That day I caught so many BIG bass my shoulder was killing me from fighting so many fish. Now I take care of that pond like it was my own and the guy doesn't care at all but he did tell me nobody can fish there without me so he didn't have to worry about a law suit. My avatar is just one of the bass in the pond. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted December 1, 2009 Super User Posted December 1, 2009 My top 3 were: 47lbs 10.5 ozs for 5 42lbs 08 ozs for 5 41lbs 15 ozs for 5 I remember every moment of each of those days, lol ;D Quote

Shane Procell Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 My most memorable day was a rainy and overcast august day in the Everglades. It rained all day long. We were tossing Horny Toad froggs the entire trip. Caught several hundred on the top. Largest a little better than 8#'s. My 2nd most memorable day was the first 300+ bass day(me and 2 others in my boat). Largest was 7#'s+ but most were in the 1#-3# range. Went through 14 bags of Zoom trick worms. Quote
DEbassman17 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 The day where I caught the most was when I caught 18 small bass 8"-16", ALL sight-fished (last summer). My biggest numbers day before that was when I caught 12 on a jig at a different pond (about 2 months ago). The biggest fish I've caught sight-fishing was this 3 lb 2 oz largemouth (that's big around here). I mean I saw everything. I pitched to her, popped it once and she sucked it in. About a week later I caught this 3 lb 5 oz on a 6" weightless lizard, she hit it right on the bank. Then about 4 or 5 days after that I caught this 3+ pounder (didn't have my scale on me) on a 3 inch senko skipped under the ole dock. Another Great memory was my first big bass ever, she weighed 4 lb 11 oz, caught back in november of 2007. Here's another throw back! My first bass ever caught on artificials, 4 years ago! The greatest fight I ever had probly had to be the carp I caught this summer. Weighed about 5 pounds, but caught on 4 lb test!!! Took about 20-25 minutes to finally land. My two greatest days fishing were one day this summer I caught this 6 lb 5 oz hawg my PB(avatar fish) And not even 3 days later my Mom caught her personal best which weighed 6 lb 2 oz I've had so many memorable/best days on the water that I just had to post a few, Tight lines!!! -Jason Quote
bocabasser Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 i fished a tourny at holiday park and the night before my partner bailed on me. i called a friend who doesn't fish, and asked if he wanted to go for a boat ride. on the way to the park, i told my friend that if he wanted to, he could pay half of the tourny fee if he wanted to or i would pay it all. if i won, and he paid half he would get half the cash. he decided to pay half ($35) the fee was $70. i proceeded to catch 34 pounds 15 oz. of fish. i had the first big fish with an 8.2 pounder and second big fish with an 7.15 pounder. he did not even boat a fish. all of those fish were caught on topwater. my buddy felt horrible collecting half of the $1200, so he gave me back $400 and kept $200 for himself. to this day everytime he watches a bass tourny on ESPN, he calls me and says man those guys can't catch the weight you caught that day. he just doesn't get it. Super User South FLA Posted December 8, 2009 Super User Posted December 8, 2009 Best bass fishing trip ever: Stick Marsh are trip, I landed a 5 fish limit that went well over 35lbs with a 10lb anchor and another 15-20 or so fish in the 1-3lb range. Quote

Elite Image Fishing Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 My most memorable day was at an event called, "Gone Fish'n not just wish'n." We helped children with special needs catch bass from small pond. I have to say that those kids see fishing a universally good thing. I have never felt so privileged to fish. It was a truly special day. One I will never forget. The picture is with a young lady from my third shift named eve. We caught about 7 fish in 30 minutes. Quote
avid Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 My best day was fishing stickmarsh/farm 13 with SteveP. we got into one of those legendary day's you usually only hear about from other people. We ended up with a total of 86 bass mostly 2-3 pounders, but with many in the 4 to 6 range and a few sevens to boot. They hit absolutely every lure we had in our tackle boxes. Some worked better than other's but everything caught bass that day. We stopped fishing only because my old shoulder joints started aching. bite was still on and there is no doubt in my mind we could have easily topped 100+ bass. I'll never forget how when we left, Steve put on the graph and drove right over the spot. The graph went crazy...displaying deep water with fish stacked from top to bottom. It's a day I'll never forget. Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 12, 2009 Super User Posted December 12, 2009 5 for a little over 25 in two hours of fishing. Had about a dozen in the 3.5 to 4.5 pound range. Fishing one stretch of grass and docks about 100 feet long. All jig fish too which was awesome. Quote
Chaz Hickcox Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 When I was a kid my pops knew a guy who owned a man made pond in downtown Phoenix. Now this pond is not open to the public, and was stocked with FLA Strain. It's about an acre in a teardrop shape. One of the walls of the pond was also a 50ft Levy wall for the Salt River. This pond is right across the river from Sky Harbor and maybe 400yds away from the I-10, but if you didn't know it was there then you would never guess it. There's an industrial park right in the vicinity of it. Anyways, we would go out there, and this is where I fell in love with Castaic Swimbaits. There were times they would out perform the live waterdogs. Regardless, it was a great time. I think we only went out there five or six times, but they were a lot of fun. BIG BIG fish, I think the small ones were about three pounds. We never had a scale with us. My favorite memory of that was when my dad and his friends were getting the tracker ready for the water, I was out on the little dock and saw a bedding bass. I ran over and grabbed my rod with my little Castaic Hard Headed Shad. My dad's friends were laughing because they saw her too and were telling me there was no way I would catch her. I decided to prove them wrong. I cast the shad about 10ft past the bass and reeled in the shad. Once I got within a foot or so of the nest I let it sink and drug it right into the bed. Thanks to parental skills of the bass I brought in what was probably a 4-5lb bass. That was the first time that day I proved them wrong. Later in the day, it was probably around 110 degrees or so, and I had a Castaic Baby Crappie that floated. The same guys were telling me it was way too hot. So I cast next to a mosquite tree that was dipping into the water. As soon as that baby crappie started swimming I got nailed. Again this one was only about four pounds but still a blast. There's a giant Flathead or something in there because there were many times we would get a fish on (I know it was fish on because the line would be moving in somewhat of a figure eight) it would be far too heavy and strong for any of us to get up. This is all on live waterdogs from Waterdog Willie's in N Phx. Great times. Then there's the time I got stuck in my truck while hunting bass, but that's another story all together. Funny, it doesn't seem like that was 14 years ago. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Hope your still reading replies. I too have 2 trips. The first is the day I made my first REAL bass fishing trip in a real bass boat. I was a new club member in the extinct Lower Columbia Bass Anglers. I caught one 13 inch bass on a black Bomber bushwacker spinnerbait with my brand new Ambassaduer 5000 and Fenwick Lunker Stik. My hand seized by the day's end. That was a special day that impacted me over 30 years ago now. Number #2 was two years ago when my God-son, Ryan went out in my Ranger with me. His dad and I lifted him from his motorized wheelchair into a push style and moved him into my boat ( using every safety measuer possible ) and took him out for his first real bass trip. I had to cast for Ryan and help him reel and set the hook but he wacked a three pounder and we boated it ! It makes me cry to remember that day. He's the bravest bass fisherman I know. Period ! Thanks for asking !!!! Love you Ryan. Quote
Helluva_Engineer Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 It's tough to pick one, but I'll go with the time I went out on New Year's Day. It was warm enough to be in a t-shirt in shorts and there was even a refreshing rain shower at one point and I forgot it was winter. We started by throwing small rapala minnows and were getting fish on almost every cast, but they were all around 1-2 lbs. I lost count before noon at 25 personally. Started throwing buzzbaits and got lit up. 2-3 lb bass every time. In the afternoon I threw out a t-rigged worm and caught a long, but skinny 6 lb bass. Threw poppers in the evening and got struck by EVERYTHING(see picture). Quote

Eternal Angler Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 When I was younger in the spring time I landed around 100 bass in the boat wells on Lake St. Clair. Now you can't fish anywhere off land, all of them prohibit it. Quote
turret_plug Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 The last time I fished with my old man..... on christmas day 2 weeks ago. He just told me a few days ago....... he has cancer. Quote
farmpond1 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I've lost track. It could be the fifteen minute period when my two personal best smallies jumped a number three Mepps and a 5 1/4 inch Rapala-both bright orange. Or it could be my first day out this past spring when I caught a 6 lb largemouth on a rattletrip right before dark and right before it began to rain. Or it could be really hot day in June when the bass in the lilly pads just couldn't get enough of my soft mouse bait. Or it could be this past cold and rainy October day when I met fishfightingIllini for an awesome day catching bass on spinnerbaits and plastic worms. There are too many days to choose from! Quote
