Super User Redlinerobert Posted November 22, 2009 Super User Posted November 22, 2009 One word comes to mind for this years trip. Epic. Dad and I had the best time we've ever had. I caught my personal best, 20.5 lbs. So did dad, at 21.5. He took big fish honors at the Lodge as well. Both fish were caught on the same day! I had a 2nd fish that day as well that went an even 20. 90% of our fish were caught on top, the weather was perfect except for the rogue day where the temp gauge hit 123 degrees. :-/ Here are some pics. Big-O Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 That's awesome Robert. Maybe the greatest freshwater fishing adventure in the world today and just think, you spent the time with your Dad I fished with Phil Marsteller for 11 yrs before they built the lodge there at the beach. He would give me a boat and cash me up with gear and supplies including additional batteries, gas, oil etc. and turn me loose for a week at a time on different stretches of the Rio *****. Just me and my Hammock Phil would pick me up a week later and drag my rig overnight behind the Amazon Queen and turn me loose for another week in a different area. Made 5 week jaunts at a time and covered new backwater areas with each trip then reported the new lake finds back to his crew and staff each week. When the water was up, about 50 miles beyond the Forresta area seemed to be my favorite because there were so many different lakes that became accessible if you did a little chopping with a machette. The young fellow that was with you (Ze') has been with Amazon Tours for many years and is one of their most reliable and dedicated employees. About 15 years ago, I had to do some minor surgery on his hand because one of his clients snatched a couple of the Wood Chopper trebles deep in his palm and damaged some nerves in his fingers....He just smiled and said gitt'r done Really glad you had a chance to spend the time with your Father and those kind of memories will last a lifetime. Big O www.ragetail.com I had no idea! Sounds like you have some incredible stories being that you had the opportunity to navigate those waters before anyone else. Do you have any pictures? I'd love to see them Ze' is hands down the best guide out there. He flat out loves my dad, which is awesome to see. We've never had any other guide other than him and he always manages to come through for us. Cool story about the surgery you performed as well. Here are couple other pics from previous years trips. Super User K_Mac Posted November 24, 2009 Super User Posted November 24, 2009 Wow. What a trip. Thanks for sharing the pictures and story. What a blessing to have time like that with your father. I knew that pirranah grew to a couple of pounds, but I've never seen a picture of one that big. A powerful incentive for staying in the boat. Quote
