ChiCityBasser Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 These pics are from 10/25/09 when me and my son Bryan were out at a small rentention pond. He normally goes fishing with me and I usually cast out and he will wait for a bluegill bit on a worm. So far he has caught plenty of small bluegill that way. Well this day I decided to take him out but didn't have his rod n reel so let him use my rod and reel and a shallow crank with no success because he had the lure running to high. I switched to a 2-5' medium crank and grabbed my rod and walked about 10 ft from him to cast. He call over and says I got one dad and that is the Bass he caught and same thing for the bluegill. All on his own and I know the pic of the bass is not great but it was close to 2lbs. Now he wants another rod and reel lol Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 17, 2009 Super User Posted November 17, 2009 CONGRATULATIONS! Quote
Bigs Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Thats pretty impressive for a young kid. Thats about the size of my average fish actually Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 Thanks guys and He caught 3 altogether that day with his second bass being much smaller. He's 9 and had to fish with my 6'6" rod and larger reel than he normally is used to but handled it well. Caught then on a custom painted crank and both fish were released right after the pics. Quote
Big-O Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 EXCELLENT and WTG CCBasser and Son "Great Dads take their children fishing" and "Lucky Children have Great Dads".....I'd say you two fit in those categories just fine www.ragetail.com Quote

paul. Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 actually, looking at the pics again, that "bluegill" is an especially nice catch because i don't think it's a bluegill at all. it appears to be a green sunfish. if so, that's a VERY nice one. your state record green sunfish is 2 lbs. 1 oz. and that one appears to be about 3/4 of a pound. so his catch is especially impressive. if that pond has green sunfish that big in it, ya'll might have a shot at the record. good luck. http://photobucket.com/images/Green%20Sunfish/ Quote

Don't think there are any bass there big enough to make a meal out of it either. Quote

L a r r y Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! I swear there is nothing better than seeing the smile on their faces when they hook into a fish and a bigger smile after they land it. These are memories neither one of you will ever forget and the bond between you two just got stronger. Now if I can get my little 4 year old girl to not scream and run away after she sees it and will not look terrified when she poses for a picture with her catch. Again bruh......CONGRATS Quote

Again bruh......CONGRATS Thanks Guys and thanks Larry and yeah he does enjoy fishing now and he will be getting a new reel for X-mas I'm thinking. Larry I also know what you mean about them running away from the fish. His first bluegill he actually caught was with alot of help from me and when I asked him to hold the fish it flaired its upper fin and he got stuck and wouldn't hold any other fish. This was the first time he actually held the fish and did all the work himself. Congrats to all the fathers, uncles, moms, big brothers and sisters and anyone else who introduces a kid to fishing. It's a great bonding time and they love it after getting that first one hooked cause then they are hooked. Quote
L a r r y Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 That is definitely a funny site. You can see from the look on her face here, that she is very skeptical of the fish flopping around Quote
