MattStrykul Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Black/blue or solid black. I like using a bigger jig when it's stained, and a big trailer. Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 11, 2008 Super User Posted December 11, 2008 Black/blue or solid black. I like using a bigger jig when it's stained, and a big trailer. x2 In really stained water go to a blue sapphire colored trailer. And for jig weights I will go with a 1/4-1/2 oz through process of elimination. Quote
Bass XL Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Black and blue. Black and yellow is a very under-rated color also. Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 11, 2008 Super User Posted December 11, 2008 In any water color you would be safe throwing Black-N-Blue or Black Neon Quote
Garnet Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 What ever the bass will bite. It's your job to work threw different colors until you get bit. Knowing the baitfish might help a bit black and ........will work almost anywhere. Garnet Quote
fathom Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 black/blue. will upsize or downsize, depending. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 11, 2008 Super User Posted December 11, 2008 In any water color you would be safe throwing Black-N-Blue or Black Neon I like a deep green with matching trailer, too. 8-) Quote

Super User J Francho Posted December 11, 2008 Super User Posted December 11, 2008 Most of the bays around here are either tannin stained or green during different times of the year. I carry around 50 jigs in my jig box. 80% are black or black with an accent color, mostly blue. 15% are watermelon, and the remaining are weird colors. I won't go much further than to say at least one of them is pink, LOL. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 black or black/blue is probably the best go. Dont forget white. I typically do this with tubes instead of jigs. SOmetimes its a killer. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 11, 2008 Super User Posted December 11, 2008 I agree with the suggested colors and trailers. A little yellow or orange in the skirt can also work. Try 'em and let us know your results. Quote
U.W BronzeBack Hunter Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I'm surprised i don't see many ppl here saying: "WHITE!" Personally, white is my go-to jig color for any water, especially stained. It seems to stand out real well, and if you have a bright colored trailer on there like a red crawdad imitation soft plastic.... get ready for action infact, i just purchased 5 strike king bleeding bitsy bug jigs today in white. Gonna last me a month after smallies start ripping them apart during spring ;D Quote
Thad Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 The less visibility you get into you may want to start thinking less about color and think more about sound and sent. Just go with a dark jig and add a rattle and some scent like Mega Strike's. Quote
Kowen117 Posted December 11, 2008 Author Posted December 11, 2008 Thanks I'll probally try some scent on it I already have a black blue jig Kvd has a jigs Thats a dark green i have been wanting to buy that most likely i'll get some scent Quote
garry77 Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 I like to throw a junebug colored terminator jig(basically black and blue with a couple other colors) and trailer it with a junebug baby brush hog. Quote
DADto4 Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 The less visibility you get into you may want to start thinking less about color and think more about sound and sent. Just go with a dark jig and add a rattle and some scent like Mega Strike's. Exactly think about it. (example) 15 foot of water...stained water at that..how well could you detect the difference between black, blue, green,or red? Now take that same scenario and add the senses of smell and sound. Which way would you be able to "find" a lure better? I realize colors do matter but to what extent? Note: I am not trying to start something, I am mearly stating my opinion and asking for you to walk a mile in the bass' shoes! Quote
Super User Munkin Posted December 13, 2008 Super User Posted December 13, 2008 some type of brown, green, or black. X2 You guys put way too much thought into colors! I have caught bass on a hot pink jig with a green pumkin head and a chart. zoom trailer just to prove that color doesn't matter. Allen Quote
bigfruits Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 in stained water i will use dark colors. if i can see the bait at 18 inches down or so, ill prob use natural colors. of course any color will work, especially if you land it on the basses nose, but i believe a dark color jig with a large trailer is easier for them to spot from a distance in heavily stained - muddy water. Super User grimlin Posted December 13, 2008 Super User Posted December 13, 2008 Green pumpkin or black/blue in stain water. Clearer water light brown with orange.I'm known to throw pink or red in that condition as well.I get funny looks though. Quote
