L a r r y Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Well the bite has fallen wayyyyy off at my favorite spot. For the last 4 outings I have only been able to land 7 fish. Normally I can pull in on average about 4-6 fish per outing, even if they are lil dinks. Here are the pics of the fish I have been able to land. The first one is of a guy that was there that never saw a LMB before and was cheering me on the whole time. As I was talking to him, I threw out a cast, and got so into talking to him that I didn't even recognize the tick tick tick at the end of the line, and this is what was trying to get my attention. Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted November 9, 2009 Super User Posted November 9, 2009 Hey Larry, just a suggestion... Try tying directly to the hook and eliminating the swivel. Your catch rate may improve. If you are set on using the swivel to prevent line twist or aid with the ease of bait changing, you may want to tie a leader on to your hook. Nice fish. Quote
Steven Ladner Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Nice fish. The bass in picture Local_6 looks chunkier than the others. Quote
BassDeaton01 Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Nice fish! Looks like you had a good day. Quote
L a r r y Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 Nice fish. The bass in picture Local_6 looks chunkier than the others. It was. It weighed in at a whopping 1.76 lbs Trying to get the bigger fish to bite has been a tryind ordeal. I have thrown just about every possible bait I have to see if I can get them to bite, but the dinks are the only ones to nibble. These pics are all over about 4 different outings, nothing biting consistent each time I've been out. Quote

I am using the swivel to aid in the amount of time it takes me to tie on a different lure. I will try a leader and see if that helps any. Should I stick to the old adage of 18-24" of leader? Quote

That length should be just fine. Tie a couple leaders/hooks before you go out so you dont have to do it lakeside. Basically, you just want to get the swivel away from the bait. Obviously, fish will still eat it with the hook on a swivel Using a leader will help, though. Quote
looking4structure Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Nice fish. That wacky worm knocks em out. Quote

Nice fish. x2 Not only will that rather large snap swivel result in making the fish a little more shy to bite but that added weight in front of the lure is going to ruin the action. Quote
L a r r y Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 The swivel is actually not that large. The camera makes everything look larger than what they really are. The largest fish is the one that is hooked to the scale and it weighed a whopping.................1.76 lbs But I will try the leader idea and see how that helps my catch rate Quote
