Mrs. Matstone Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Today my husband surprised me and came home early. It was a very pleasant surprise since both the children were at school, and we both had one thing on our minds.... fishing! I was anxious to use my waders so we headed out to one of my all time favorite fishing holes. Temps were very cool. Weatherman said we had some snow heading our way in the forecast but at least the water is not frozen yet. However it sure was cold even in my insulated waders. When we arrived there the lake was like glass but just make things a little more challenging mother nature kicked the wind up a few notches for us. Doesn't it just figure. ;D Started off fishing where the water was deepest. There are some nice rocky structures that we targeted in all three areas we fished today. My bait of choice was one that has not let me down lately in these cool temperatures, small finesse jig and baby craw. I fished it pretty fast today and it seemed to be the ticket to what these fish wanted. Tally for the day was Mrs. M 5 and Mr. M 1. All fish caught were bass. I was hoping to catch some perch or some crappy but no such luck today. Did not take pics of all the fish but only took pics of 2. Mr M did not wish to have the pic of his fish taken today. Grump that he was. ;D First fish of the day.. Another one.. its not always easy keeping your reel out of the water. Last but not least the best little fish I got today. I caught it on an anaconda. (just kidding) I saw this guy laying in a little pool alongside the lake so I was sure to put him back in the lake again and he was happy to swim off with his brothers and sisters. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 5, 2009 Super User Posted November 5, 2009 That was a chubby bass. We had a few snow flurries in Akron today . I'm done for the year. Quote

nUgZ Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Nice bass. My wife loves to fish, but she's not big on fishing in the cold. Quote
mrlitetackle Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 as always, nice fish Mrs Matstone, keep up the great work, and congrats! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted November 7, 2009 Super User Posted November 7, 2009 Nice fishing. Extend the season for as long as you can. Makes the winter layoff shorter. We're still catching them here too. Not the numbers but enough to keep it interesting. Water temps still hanging near the mid fifties. The fight has gone out of the fish, except for the pickerel. The last time out, I caught a couple of decent small mouths and at first could not tell if it was a fish on the hook or if I had snagged a mass of weeds. Had to stop retrieving to feel the weight on the end of the line was a living creature. The bass of a pound or so just rise to the surface and skim along on it. They may make a few half hearted attempts to gain their freedom, but mostly are led to the boat like a dog on a leash. Still it's better than sittin home wishin. Getting to be time for me to lay out all my gear, sort through and organize it. Need to inventory everything, particularly line, and hooks, to prep for next season, and the road trip. Really looking forward to that, and meeting what I hope will be a lot of you folks. Quote
Mrs. Matstone Posted November 7, 2009 Author Posted November 7, 2009 It was awesome to be out fishing again. A little colder which I am not so happy about but those are the breaks. I hope to do some wading again this weekend. I probably will fish no matter how cold as long as there is no ice. I would love to have soft water all winter but I am not holding my breath. ;D Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted November 9, 2009 Super User Posted November 9, 2009 Very nice. The late fall jig bite is wonderful. Here, there's no one out there but me. Quote

BassDeaton01 Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Sounds like a good day Mrs. M. I personally can't seem to figure them out down here. The bite has just shut off and I can't catch em for nothing. Glad to hear you are! Thanks for posting. Quote
