CJ Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 WOW!!! What a great roadtrip! My face still hurts from laughing so much. It was great to see some old friends and meet a lot of new ones. There was never a dull moment! Thanks to all of you who came! Some great memories were made! CJ Quote
I Love BassResource Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I thought while we're driving home, I would whip out the laptop and post some random fish pics from the past week. ** I'll fix the white spacing when I get home. I don't have photoshop on this laptop, and I"m starting to get car sick messing with this stuff... 5lber's  - First was snagged on Tuesday, the second on Friday, just after the bad storm had passed.  It appeared me smfisher, and pitchinkid were the only ones left on the water, lol. We caught a bunch of these pitching lay downs, during the best evening we had. These guys were abundant. You could work over a main lake point and catch these cookie cutters all day long... Quote
I Love BassResource Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 The BR Mods, these guys are each incredible individuals to meet in person. A wealth of knowledge... SMFisher with a couple nice KY lake largemouth, to bad I can't post a pic of the "one that got away" was a 6lb-/+ by my best guesstimates Quote
clipper Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I hope ya'll managed through the weather this morning. Got pretty rough for a while here. Most everyone had to leave before the weather got bad. Glenn and Keri were sight seeing. It looked like Uncle Leo/Simple Joe, Roadwarrior and myself were the only ones that went out. RW got a 2-12, I got one a smidge smaller. We heard thunder, pulled up stakes and got into the marina restaurant just as the rain and lightning started coming down. Leo the same. We never went back out, loaded up instead and left for home. I'll post later when the others start posting. Some probably still aren't home yet. Joe from Fort Cambell and I went out too. Â Found a 100 yd stretch of bank loaded with small fish. Â We stayed until the second clap of thunder and should have left after the first. Â Had a great week. Â Will post later. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted April 11, 2009 Super User Posted April 11, 2009 Well, I made it home this morning around 1am and finally got to sleep where I was the only male.  ;D  Dang man, where do I begin..... -1st rate company staying with Jimzee, Pitchinkid, dick and SMFisher.  If you ever get a chance to meet any or all of these folks, jump on the opportunity.  dick and SMFisher may have the worst snoring problem I have ever heard. (You may need to see a doctor  LOL) -I dont care what anyone says, I like to catch fish and this place was loaded with them.  There were enough 3lbers thrown in to make it fun, but I realized that I can sit on a deep point and catch 12" bass all day, not caring that the big girls didnt want to play.  It's all about who you are fishing with. -Jimzee and Pitchinkid are jig fishing fools, no doubt.  Burley, merely a fool.   FBL is the gruffest sounding dude I have ever met, great guy. Cart is a pleasure to fish with, would do it again in a heartbeat. The fellas who hung out at the chicken pit (you know who you are), thanks for the company and your beer retrieval skills are top-notch. Ol' Idaho is a great guy and has a camera I am VERY jealous of. Gene, Russ, CJ, LongMike, Ghoti, Greg, Deb it was nice to see you all, some again and others for the first time.  -The dinners were a great opportunity to sit around and meet a ton of people. Everyone was very friendly and I got to talk to everyone on the trip at least once I think. My brain hurts from trying to recall all the great memories from this trip.  The details will surface over the next few days and weeks.  For those I didnt mention by name, I apologize.  You know how it gets. As a parting note, dont forget the most important quote of the trip: I am a cook!!  Dont eat the chicken!!! Karma.  Quote
Simp Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I saw the one and only Big O throw down two of them in a hurry man. So as long as he keeps posting we all good! ;D ;D ;D Quote
Pitchinkid Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Well im finally home. Wish we were still there.Good to sleep in my own bed though. Â Caught hundreds of fish. Wish everybody could have made it. It is a very impressive fishery. I wish the weather would have cooperated a little more. Found out a few things on this trip. Booten snores can be registered on the richter scale.Smfisher has zero tackle. Literally. Its all in the lake now.Speedbead is a couple credits shy of his culinary arts school diploma. lol j/k And Jimzee is still the same ole bum i fish every weekend with. Thanks to Bob Lusk, Big-O, JJ's , KVD L & L con. Â BTS, Megastrike , and Shimano(even though im a Diawa guy.) Â Thanks to everybody for there generosity towards the Cast for kids. Had a great time. Its really not even registering what i am typing, so im going to bed and i will be back in a few hours to post some more. Â Dont drink the Kool-Aid Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted April 11, 2009 Super User Posted April 11, 2009 After dodging tornadoes the whole way home and stopping at my in-laws to try to avoid the storms (didn't work) I finally made it home at 1am this morning. My jaw and hands hurt from that teeth clenching, white knuckle trip. (note: Don't ever try synchronized hydroplaning with a semi-truck while pulling a boat.) Every time I slowed down I could feel the water shifting in my boat. It was filling up faster than the pump and the drain hole could empty it. The trip was fun. Thanks to everyone for being there. It was great to get to see old friends and make new ones. Thanks to all who cooked and kept thing running. Once again my apologies go out to the guys who didn't make it into the group photo. I'm truly sorry. Â :-[ Quote
bassinsergeant Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I want to once again thank everyone that was on the roadtrip. I had a great time and I hope that I will be able to make it  next year also. I also want to thank the BR family for the support they give to the military. We greatly appreciate it! I want to give a special thanks to Bud for the rod. I have never had a fishing rod that means so much to me. I also want to thank Big O for taking us out with him and showing us the future Rage Tail baits that I know everyone will enjoy and catch alot of fish with. I had a great time and hope to do it again some day. I also want to think Bud and David for allowing us to fish with them. Thanks Again, Bryan Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted April 11, 2009 Super User Posted April 11, 2009 Once again my apologies go out to the guys who didn't make it into the group photo. I'm truly sorry. Yeah, I was pretty bummed about that. Too bad we were 15 minutes late. Hard to leave the lake when the fish are biting. :-/ I had a great time meeting all the new faces and getting reacquainted with the old ones. There's an insane amount of fish in that lake. Probably one of the better fisheries I have fished in. Even in terrible weather conditions with 40 mph wind gusts, six foot waves, and driving rain, we were still catching fish. Crazy stuff!! Many thanks go out to all that donated their time and products for the dinners. It was greatly appreciated on everyone's part. I will post more later on, just still too tired to sit in front of the computer. I just completely wore my body down this past week fishing as hard as I could. Just got back home from driving an additional 4.5 hours today on top of yesterdays 9.5 hours. I am so tired of being on the road. Off to bed... For the MODS Let me know who to send the pictures to if you all are going to make a video this year. I have some really good ones. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted April 11, 2009 Super User Posted April 11, 2009 Time for a few of my own thoughts. This was my first Road trip and it won't be my last. What a great time it was finally putting the face on the screen name. Thanks to Glenn and Keri for everything, you guys were the perfect hosts. Alpster and Long Mike for their hard work. To the mods, a big . To Deb and Fluke for the delicious deserts. Yum! To the cooks a great thanks for 2 great meals. To CJ and Bud, thanks for the help during the week trying to locate the hawgs, I know they're there. To Big-O, thanks for the generosity and showing our soldiers a good time on the lake, you are a hoot. To Bob Lusk, thanks for taking the time to talk with me about the lake I fish. Procrafter, my Monday partner never complained about the horrible weather conditions. Of course, we were catchen up on them so that helped. Burley, my 7am Tuesday partner who finally showed up in the restaurant at 8am in his PJ's while we ate breakfast. It was a pleasure. Hope you got your drawers cleaned up after that boat ride up the lake. It would be a pleasure to fish with you again. Firefightin15. I had a ball, broken rod and all. I'm a fishermen! Don't dip your spinnerbait trailer in the JJ's!! ;D Speedbead on Thursday. Thanks for draggin my tired butt all over the lake. After 4 1/2 days of fighting the TM I was glad to turn the front of the boat over to you. Had I not, I probably wouldn't have caught that 4 1/2 lber. (wish I could have measured it on Bootens scale) RW, it was a pleasure to sneak out for a few hours on Friday morn. Glad to see you get your biggest (2lb 12oz) of the weekend. The only photo I took all week. Be there in 2010 or don't be at all. I can't wait. Quote
ProCrafter Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Just got back from the airport......bbbbooooorrrrriiiiinnnnngggg!!! After all that fun at the lake sitting in two different aircraft was so slow!! Great to meet all you clowns and cannot wait to get into this site more and meet the rest of you. This has got to be one of the best fishing adventures I have ever had. Caught close to 100 fish for the week...Sunday when I arrived three of us went down just before supper and I caught three off the shoreline!!! spent maybe 5 hours a day fishing from shore and the bank is just crawling with fish! I wont see that in the Seattle area till August!! My biggest was around 4 pounds but I suspended her in a bush I was flipping..(With Mono!) and she busted me and got to catch my first bed fish of the year...around three lbs! Thanks to my boaters...Cart,Long Mike,Long Mike again for me and Simp!, and CJ. All you guys are what this sport is about! Will post pics and some hokey movie stuff too....even storm footage! goin nappin now.... Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted April 11, 2009 Super User Posted April 11, 2009 Guys (and gals), it was the greatest getaway I have ever had. It was ALL my pleasure getting to meet everyone. The mods were super guys, the members were unforgettable, and the speakers and guests were nothing less than outstanding. (Just walked away for 6 hrs.- grass fires). Getting back to the road trip, special thanks to Gene, Big O, and Paul for going one on one with me. I learned a lot this week but these fellas really gave me their time and it was much appreciated. Kelley and Glen were my chauffeurs and get my many thanks. They made me very at home on their rides. Kelley, don't worry, after I put that stitch in my arm and cauterized it the bleeding stopped. Btech, the George Dickel #8 put a big smile on my neighbor's face and Patrick made me laugh more than anything after showing me how to use a shakey head AFTER he am Kelley limited out several times and were ready to call it a day. On a final note, Burley shook my hand. I don't think he really wanted to, I'm sure he was just looking for some more JJ's. Here's some pics: Long Mike guarding the wine- Deb and Greg, my Friday night hosts when I first got there- LBH and Big O- Ghoti and Mary- LBH and Paul- RW flippin' burgers (McDonald's, look out!)- Idaho***er (Patrick) What kind of bait is that? Kelley, the new dinkmaster! Fish was an inch longer than the senko- Everybody waving to my nephew (river rat 58) who couldn't be there- Of course, Glenn dove in at the last minute. What a ham! Long Mike and RW during a special moment- Quote

BassinSoldier Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 What a great bunch of people! Bryan and I had a blast!!! Neither of us boated anything very large, but the numbers were good and the company we had on the water was even better. I want to say thanks to Big-O for taking us along and ordering us to stay in his room when he thought it was too cold to stay in our tent at Fenton. We had a great time and hope to see ya again in the near future sometime. Thanks to Bud, who is the first guy I met off of the forum in person, and still one of my favorite fishin' buddies...We gotta get back out there as soon as you get a chance, Bud! My thanks go out to David as well, who took Bryan and me out. I'm glad I was there to see you boat your first smallmouth, and also to see you gain a little confidence in jigs. Thanks to everyone for supporting your armed forces the way you all do. I'm proud to be a member of such an outstanding bunch of folks! As soon as I find my camera I'm gonna post a pic of Bryan and me with our first fish on our new rods, which we picked up pretty quickly the next day after we had received them. On that note, thank you Flechero for making such a piece of art for me! The rod is beautiful, and fishes even better than it looks!!! If Bryan and I are still in country when it's time for the next roadtrip then I look forward to seeing all of you guys next year! (Also, I know Bryan has a shot, and I think Burley got one too...but I'm surprised the pic of me laying on my back falling outta the chair hasn't popped up yet!) Â ;D Quote

Super User burleytog Posted April 12, 2009 Super User Posted April 12, 2009 I'm not good at summarizing things, so I'll lay down the whole week... Met 5bass on I-81 at around 10:30 last Saturday night. Loaded my junk in his truck and we hit the road. We stopped and watered some bushes along the way. Glenn called somewhere between Knoxville and Nashville to let us know that I-24 in Nashville was screwed up. We managed to follow the detour signs for a while, but got caught by a late sign and managed to get turned around. We got our saving grace via a Nashville police officer. I drew the short straw and had to go get directions. Mind you this was at 3AM or so. He was parked at an on-ramp. I approached slowly from the rear and found him asleep in his car. I had to knock on the window twice to wake him. Once he woke up, his directions started with, 'Drive through the hood.' At that point I almost stopped him, but I figured he wouldn't be that mean. In the end, his directions got us headed in the right direction. We rolled into the Kenlake Lodge parking lot around 6AM Sunday morning. As we drove past the lodge, I told 5bass to slow down as I thought I saw Medium Mike. I rolled down the window and yelled at the goofy looking guy sitting on a bench. It indeed was Medium Mike, who was followed by RW. After a quick meet & greet, 5bass pulled off what would end up being the first of many d**n fine boat parking jobs (Kenlake wasn't exactly set up for boaters). We went in to see if we could possibly check in a bit early, but got rebuffed. Gave them our number so they could call when the room was ready. Couldn't raise Jimzee on the phone, so we piddled around for just a bit. Saw 5bass drag his phone out and dial a number. Next thing I know he shoved his phone in my face and said it was Jimzee. Wrong! It was Jimzee's wife. She gave me Pitchinkid's number and we managed to touch base with the campground posse. Rolled down to the marina to start rigging rods and then head out. While we were rigging, had a quick meet & greet with several of the group. Jimzee, Speedbead, Fluke and LBH stopped by for a bit. We finally got the boat in the water and started to head across the bay by the marina when the phone rang. It was the hotel telling us our room was ready. Great timing, no? Hell with it, we're going fishing. 5bass got the first fish of the trip, a decent dink on a trap. We fished around there for a while, then hit the main lake and headed south. Saw a decent little bay and decided to duck in for a while. We had run about 200' of pea gravel when I felt a tick on the line and set the hook. Didn't think it was much of a fish at first although 5bass said it was a good one after it came to the surface. Got it in the boat, put it on the scale and found out it was a good 5 lb. KY Lake bass. After that I was ready to head home, but 5bass wanted to fish a while longer. My next cast resulted in a nice 10 lb. limb. :-[ We fished a few more hours, I think we each got three fish each. All of mine came on a jig, 5bass junk-fished his way through the morning. Came back to the hotel, got settled in, met a few people, then had the smallest $13 buffet I've ever seen. By that time, more people were rolling in, so we spent the afternoon in the lodge shooting the bull. Pretty much everyone met in the back lobby to get our gift bags and tell lies. 5bass was wiped out and went back to the room to pass out. I thought I was a sound sleeper, but he takes the cake. Had a quick snack with everyone, then I hit the sack. Being up for 30 hours caught up with me. Monday morning we awoke to cold air, rain and snow. Had my first KY Eggs Benedict at the lodge restaurant. There weren't many brave souls Monday AM. Most of us congregated in the back lobby to trade stories and whatnot. By 2 or so, Jimzee, 5bass and I were stir-crazy and decided to at least hit the water and fish around the lodge for a while. We braved the snow and wind and managed to catch a few fish. Well, 5bass and I caught a few fish. Jimzee got the skunk. I nailed mine on a carolina rigged Space Monkey. Eventually got numb, so we headed back to the lodge. Dinner was a 6:30, so we ran over to the Bayview building just in time for RW's burgers. Had a good time shooting the bull and listening to JJ and Big-O tell us about their products. After dinner, dick gave me quite the surprise. That sorry wretched had made me a rod, so we went back to the campground for a beer and the presentation of a d**n fine rod. Brian, can't thank you enough for that sweet stick. While we were at dinner, I switched my phone to silent mode so as to not interrupt the presentations. When we got back to the hotel, I forgot to switch the phone back to normal. So when cart and Jimzee tried to call me Tuesday morning, I didn't hear a d**n thing. I did wake up around 8, looked at my phone and saw a few missed calls. Felt like an ***. Hurried to get ready and then cart and I hit the water. That ride up the lake Tuesday morning may have been the most miserable I've ever been in a boat. There were 3-4' waves on the main lake and we were going 5-6 miles up the lake to Jonathan Creek. Forgot my toboggan in the room, so by the time we got to JC my scalp was frozen. IIRC, air temps were in the upper 30s and the wind was 10-20 out of the NW. Cart took me to school and I only managed to boat two dinks. We eventually got too d**n cold to fish, so again we had a nice boat ride back to the marina. Not nearly as rough as the earlier ride, but still bad enough. Cart's Champion gave a nice ride though. That spring seat saved my spine a few times. Napped for a while Tues. afternoon, then headed back to the Bayview building for Speedbead's chicken dinner. Ate way too much thanks to Deb's gut busting desert, felt like crap all night. Had a little entertainment and whatnot. Wednesday 5bass and I headed across the lake for the first time. We drove up the lake a bit to Hester's Marina so we could have a straight shot across the lake via a cross-channel. The marina launch was a little more rustic than I've ever used. Got the boat in just fine, but when I went to park the truck & trailer, I managed to get mired up in at least 6" of mud. After 15 minutes of throwing mud all over the place, I managed to get the truck out and parked. Felt like a real turd after covering 5bass's truck with a good 60 lbs. of mud. We ran over to Duncan Bay and 5bass got a nice 3 lb. keeper on the first point we hit. We each caught a couple in that pocket. Sadly that was it for the day for me. 5bass was killing them on an xr50, but I couldn't get bit to save my life. I may have gotten 6 bites all day, boating two of those and breaking one off. Ran into Jimzee, Pitchinkid and Speedbead, then 5bass proceeded to explode the xr50 on the trolling motor head. About that time the wind decided to pick up. We found a few protected areas and 5bass snagged a nice one off a fallen tree using a fluke. I saw the fish come out and hammer the fluke. We decided to hit the next bay up and ventured out onto the main lake where we encountered some nice 3-4' rollers. Made for a rough ride up to Smith Bay. The place was full of boats and very little cover from the wind. I was really sweating the ride back across the lake. Thankfully the wind slacked a bit just before we headed back across the lake. The main lake was still plenty rough, but not as rough as it would have been an hour previous. After the fun and wet ride, we fished around Hester's for a bit before taking out and heading back to the lodge for dinner. Wed. night's dinner at the lodge was pretty good. The fried okra was d**n good. Almost wish I hadn't filled up on chicken. Bassinsoldier gave us a good laugh before dinner out on the patio (got the pictures to prove it ;D ). Bob Lusk gave a good presentation, then it was raffle time. I think Glenn was trying to tell me that I stunk as I managed to nab 12 bottles of JJ's Magic in the raffle. :-? CJ had a great night, cleaning up on Shimano reels. Thursday morning I headed out with ShortMediumLong Mike. I pieced together a decent morning, but Mike couldn't buy a bite. Morning started off a little cool, but the day ended up being the best we'd had, at least from a weather standpoint. Mike and I headed down the lake a bit and fished a nice little pocket. I pulled two decent fish off a little stretch of bank with a football jig. Ran into Glenn and Keri and they gave us a few tips. Saw a fat red fox along the shore, but couldn't get a good photo. Rain was in the forecast and once it started coming down a good bit, we headed back to the marina. As luck would have it, that was pretty much all the rain we saw. > We were on our own for dinner Thurs. night. A few of us headed up to Murray for dinner at Tom's Grill. Great conversation and brainstorming ensued. ;D Friday morning, 5bass and I loaded up and headed home. May have been one of the most miserable drives I've ever experienced. We drove through rain the entire way home. We were in Nashville and on I-40 when the tornado hit Murfreesboro. The rain got so hard at times the road was barely visible. That d**n system followed us all the way through TN. I would have hated to have been behind us before we stopped and pulled the boat plugs. Some people got quite the shock when the bilge started. ;D I didn't catch nearly enough fish, but all in all it was a good week. Got to meet some great people and have some good laughs. I took some great photos (right CJ?) and got to fine-tune my jigging and c-rigging. Wanted to get bit on a crankbait, but it just wasn't in the cards. I'd like to thank 5bass for putting up with me, cart for being so great about my tardiness Tues. morning, LongMike for not throwing me out of the boat Thurs., Big-O for the advice, Booten again for the rod, Glenn for not banning me and Speedbead for the d**n fine chicken. I don't know where or when next year's trip is going to be, but I'll try like hell to get there. If for no other reason than to again teach everyone how to catch big fish. Quote
clipper Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Well, the boat is washed, vacuumed, and put away , and the BTS I used before I left made it easy to clean. The life jackets, seats, tackle bags, and gear are finally dried as well as the tent I rode out the Thursday night deluge in. This was a memorable trip in more than one way. I stopped in Kentucky for a Wendy's and Frosty and ended up being about that far behind the tornado that crossed I-24 in Murphreesboro,NC. Had I not stopped I would have come real close to being there when it hit. I sat on I-24 for 45 minutes while they cleared the roadway. When I passed the area it hit I saw a tractor trailer rig on it's side and the pine trees beside the road looked like the tops had been mowed with a bush hog. I followed the bad weather all the way from Kentucky to Cartersville, GA. Long Mike, thanks for letting me fish with Simp on Wednesday and bassinsergeant and BassinSoldier on Thursday. I also fished with BassinSoldier on Friday morning. Simp and I had a blast throwing crankbaits all day on Wednesday. Bryan and Joe gave me a jig education on Thursday. I had three firsts on this trip - lost my first fish on a jig, caught my first fish on a jig, and CAUGHT MY FIRST SMALLMOUTH, 13.5 inches of bad attitude 8-). That is why I really came to Kentucky Lake, so thanks Bryan and Joe. I have a picture which I will post later after I get it reduced to the proper size. I will definitely be trying a jig and Rage Tail crawfish trailer dipped in JJ's Magic on the spots in Allatoona the next chance I get. Like most other folks, we caught mostly 10-12 inch largemouth with a few larger fish thrown in occassionaly. Thanks to Glenn and Keri, the mods, the cooks, and all the sponsors. My son has already confiscated my Shimano hat and has his eye on the reel I won as well. I told him to keep his sticky fingers off my shaky heads. I will be saving vacation for next year. Kyle, Joe, and Bryan - it was a pleasure fishing with you. I learned something from all of you. See you all next year. Quote
Bud Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Well guys I don't know were to start. Â Glad every one had a good time and just wish the wx had been better. Sorry I could not put every one on the pig but that is the reason it is called fishing instead of catching. Good to put faces with the name and I personally had a great time Thanks again. Â Bud Quote

I didnt catch that many big fish but did catch a lot of fish on a couple of the good days. I did have my personal best by far to the boat, dick had the bottem lip in his hand for a split second before it threw back my jig and was gone. maybe next time. dick caught some nice fish as well as Pitchenkid. I Love BassResource Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Speedbead on Thursday. Thanks for draggin my tired butt all over the lake. After 4 1/2 days of fighting the TM I was glad to turn the front of the boat over to you. Had I not, I probably wouldn't have caught that 4 1/2 lber. (wish I could have measured it on Bootens scale)  Don't think I can let that jab pass by under the guise of humor   Jimzee and I both dicussed my pics and the pic of pitchenkids fish. Those fish were really fattened up, after the spawn I would say both girls will settle around 4lbs +/-.  Maybe you should have simply weighed your fish to remove speculation??  ;D Quote

IdahoLunkerHunter Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Well, made it home everyone! What a great trip. Fluke, I am glad we got there early! d**n flight carrier moved my flight to fly out at 3pm instead of 7pm. If I wasn't there earlier I would have missed my flight and would have had to stay the night. I will be calling the carrier tomorrow morning. Â Triton21(Kelley) my roomie and boat partner, it was great to get to know ya. He let me call the shots on a Lake that I have never been to and I was able to put us on fish everyday. That was a great confidence builder! A great thanks to the cooks and everyone that was involved. Throughout the whole week I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! I think between the whole week Kelley and I probably caught 100+ fish. Brian (Firefightn15) it was good to meet ya and fish with. Sorry about not showing ya earlier about that shakey head. Glad you were a good sport about it, it was sure fun laughing all day! I would really like to appreciate everyone who helped me learn how to read a map. I believe that knowing how to read a map is a very intrical part in fishing now. It eliminates a lot of dead water, especially once you have found a pattern. Thanks everyone and I am sure I will see you all again next year and more to meet! Quote
