BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 12, 2009 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 12, 2009 Just got home late last night. What a great trip! Definitely the best one to date. I don't have time to post my comments. There's just too much that happened. Like the others have mentioned, I laughed so hard my stomach hurt! Wanted to post a quick message for everyone who attended that has pics - please send them to LBH. He's creating the roadtrip video. Thanks!! Glenn Quote
Super User CWB Posted April 12, 2009 Super User Posted April 12, 2009 Wow. What a trip. Spent most of yesterday catching up on sleep. Fishing is work! Fighting those winds was excruciating. Great to finally meet you guys and match the faces to the names. What a great mix of guys. The veterans like Bud, Kelly and Big O were a wealth of knowledge. Big O- Thanks for the baits! They do work. JJ- You're stuff stinks! (Works too) The young guns like CJ and the rest- Thanks for the tips and help. Wish I could have spent more time picking your brains. Cooks- Outstanding. Speed- I need that Chicken recipe. Glenn- Thanks for putting this together. Well done. For two Chicago guys that don't get to fish this type of lake very often, Uncle Leo and I did pretty good. Big O's tip on Saturday led to two great days. I might have a claim for dink of the trip- 4" tops on a crank. Hope everyone had as good a time as we did and hope to see you all again!. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted April 12, 2009 Super User Posted April 12, 2009 I don't know where to begin. I have so many pleasant memories of the trip. First and foremost, I want to thank CJ, Bud, Greg (R520dvx) and his lovely wife Debbie for going WAY out of their way to make sure our trip was a success. On behalf of all of the attendees, I am expressing our many thanks for all of your hard work and personal sacrifice. Secondly, I want to thank Alpster for all the hard work he did getting everything organized. Ronnie, you made my job as fill-in Coordinator a piece of cake. Basically, all I had to do was take care of some miscellaneous BS and then stand around, look pretty, and take all the credit. To Speedbead and Roadwarrior: Your culinary arts are unsurpassed by even the finest Parisian chefs. But then, a hungry fisherman, fresh off the water, will eat boiled wallpaper if you tell him it's cabbage. ;D Lest I forget, Jeff's black-pot cobbler and Deb's cake were both outstanding. To the sponsors: Your generosity was incredible. Not only did the attendees take home a bag full of goodies, you enabled CAST for Kids to add a substantial amount to their dwindling coffers. To the speakers; JJ, Bob Lusk, and Big-O. Thank you all for very enjoyable and informative presentations. Also, I want to thank you attendees for so generously donating to help the chefs and supporting personnel to recover their costs for the Monday and Tuesday dinners. A few of the folks declined any reimbursement and insisted that the money be donated. I am very pleased to announce that of the $570 donated, $420 went to CAST. To those of you who fished with me on my boat, I'm sorry that we didn't catch as many fish as others did, but then, I'm kinda new to Bass fishing, so I would ask for your forbearance. To Burley: I hate to ruin your reputation, but you are one hell-oanother siteice guy. As with all of the Road Trips, I was able to visit with old friends and to make new ones. It doesn't get any better than that. Can't wait for next year! Quote
R520dvx Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Deb and I had a great time meeting everyone and joining in. We are glad to see all the posts to learn everyone seemed to enjoy. Alpster and Long Mike did a great job putting it together. Roadwarrior and Speedbead were great feeding all the hungry attendees. Thanks to Glenn for letting us join in at the last minute. We didn't fish much as we can fish here whenever we want and were too busy enjoying the fellowship. Wish we could have hung out Thursday and Friday, but my daughter and her kids came to visit. We really hope to be part of the next Roadtrip .............. If anyone visits Kentucky Lake again ..... look us up !!! Quote
CJ Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I know I posted a short thank you to everybody. Now here's my story from the roadtrip 2009! I met RW on Saturday afternoon for about a 5 hour outing to start things off. We had a great time as always and caught some fish but no bigguns'. Saturday night was the team pampers wine and cheese party. Although I was accused of drinking Gary dry...I see no evidence, therefor those statements are irrelevant. : It was a great time as every evening during the BS sessions in the lodge lobby we took over. Sunday I fished with Gary and his wife Mary. We caught several fish and had a great time. Monday everybody, well almost everybody, stayed in and watched the yucky weather. This was a great day though. Instead of going out with one or two members we got to sit around all day joking around and cutting up. It was a blast! Tuesday I fish with the one, the only,....Long Mike! We had a decent day with plenty of fish caught. Mike, thanks for stepping up. Sorry we couldn't find big momma. Wednesday I fished with Senko77 and LBH. Talk about 3 mooks in a boat. My gut was officially busted after this day. I went to bed laughing! BTW, everybody, Ryan is an 8. spinnerbaits are great. Next time I will put my rod down when we fish pea gravel Ryan. We caught over 100 fish between the three of us, we all caught a limit of keepers and got a nice supprise, all while laughing our butts off. Can't explain, you would had to of been there. Thursday I fished with Procrafter. Another great angler. We had a blast! Caught several fish. Friday was going home day for everybody. The weather was ugly again but LBH and headed again. We were only out for a few hours and we caught a few nice ones. Had a few more laughs too! A special thanks to all the cooks, Glenn and Keri, Long Mike, Big O (I really enjoyed hearing some great fishing stories from this guy. Learned a lot too), JJ from JJ's Magic, Bob Lusk (world of knowledge!), and to all the sponsors, and especially all the members who attended. I hope ya'll had a great time. Sorry if I didn't get to talk to everybody enough. Stay tuned for the video, it's gonna be a good one! See ya'll in 2010!!! CJ Quote

Banor Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 You only have to turn in what you didnt "aquire" ;D You'd be surprised how much gortex you can accumulate over the course of your career. I'm only 9 years in and I think I could open my own surplus store. Hey guys there havent been a whole lot of really detailed reports on patterns. I'm heading down to Kentucky next week. Never fished it before. Is there a predominant color pattern? I'm pouring my own plastics in preparation and could use some clues on color. B Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted April 16, 2009 Super User Posted April 16, 2009 Next week? Take a shallow crank rod, a jig rod and a spinnerbait rod. All set. Quote
Btech Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Hey for those who went on the trip - In the Gift bags were some Evo Jigs. I cant seem to find them online - I was under the impression *** or TW would have them but maybe im blind. Anyone have a link to purchase more of the same ones They work GREAT with Big-o's Space Monkey and JJ's A link would help this idiot out if not just a general location. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted April 16, 2009 Super User Posted April 16, 2009 http://www.deloscustomtackleshack.com/jigs/evolution.html Per the locals at KY, blue is a good color to have on any lure you're throwing down there. Quote
Btech Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Thanks Cart- Those things are AWSOME jigs. For those who didnt get to go - These are definatly worth trying out! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 16, 2009 Super User Posted April 16, 2009 Bonus Points! Delo's is a sponsor. 8-) Quote

Is there a predominant color pattern? I'm pouring my own plastics in preparation and could use some clues on color. We caught most of our fish on Shakey Heads with watermelon red slim senko, watermelon/chartreuse robo worm, and a hand pour lavender worm. Junbug trick stick and a watermelon trick stick dipped in JJ's Chartreuse. As already said jigs with rage tail craw trailer, spinnerbait, and a few on crankbaits. PM CJ, Bud, and R520dvx they can steer you the right direction. The fish should be in all stages of the spawn. Kelley Quote

PM CJ, Bud, and R520dvx they can steer you the right direction. The fish should be in all stages of the spawn. Kelley All of my fish came on a Green Pumpkin Jig, Green Pumpkin Rage Tail Craw and dipped in JJ's Chartrese craws only full length. When weather was stable they were pulled off a 5 ft ledge adjacent to 12-15 ft of water. When the wether cooled (front conditions) they were in 12-15 feet. In the late afternoon we found some in the back of the bays in 2-5 feet. Did not find many on the banks. Some were found on laydowns mostly in Sugar Bay. They seemed to be staging or course that can all change by the time you get down their. I was fortunate as the afternoon of the first day we met Big-O who prefished, he put us on time and we toke it from there. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 16, 2009 Super User Posted April 16, 2009 Greg and Debbie have a "special" tube they might tell you about. Big-O says blue is the color and he did very well on Saturday fishing a blue Rage Tail Lobster on a Shak-e2 jig head, I think. Most of my fish were small, but we had some numbers on black or black & blue jigs with blue trailers; and green pumpkin w/ black flakes jig/ Baby Paca Craw, Alabama pattern. Shakey heads were productive for everyone that fished them, including Glenn on his first cast of the trip! I caught my biggest bass on a Sebile Koolie Minnow, Yellow Pepper (chartreuse). Although fish were caught at a variety of depths, Glenn, Keri and I were on a very specific pattern Tuesday: 12' depth reading without variance. I caught nothing on a variety of lipless crankbaits and spinnerbaits, but CJ caught 3 or 4 keepers and a number of shorts on a Rat-L-Trap Saturday. On Monday Bud had success with a Lucky Craft CB 200. I also had the pleasure of fishing with cart7t, Long Mike, flukemaster and fivebasslimit. They may share their stories later, but I'll just say, 5BL has some great success flipping to cover! 8-) Quote
Banor Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Great info guys! Appreciate it. I realize alot will change between the trip and my trip as far as location/depth and such, but some lakes can define themselves with a specific color or pattern throughout an entire season. Of course you all know that. So thanks for the great info!!! I really wish I could have been on the trip with you guys. I had planned on going but when they announced the Air National Guard Tournament I had to choose between the BR road trip or fishing with my National Guard brothers. I never miss the chance to fellowship and fish with my fellow Guard members. Any of you guys who are locals to the lake are welcome to drop me a line and hang out. I'll be down there from 21 Apr through 30 Apr and staying at the Kentucky Dam Park. PM me contact info and we can do some fishing! B Quote
