i dont know why ive never tied this before , but man is it great. i was only out for an hour or so but landed two fish on the DS. first one was a pound and some change (didnt get a pic) , the second was two or three but she fought like a pitbull. i was using a zoom super fluke jr in baby bass color with a 1/0 ewg gammy.

Nice bass! How did you manage drop shotting from shore? Like casting and stuff? I tried it a couple times and it was probably just a confidence thing but it just wasn't working. But I had trouble getting it out a decent ways the way it's rigged.

Use a heavier weight.  1/2-1oz.  You can throw it a mile.

where i was at , i could only manage side arm casts with my 6'6 L rod because of the trees/brush. i couldnt cast as far as i normally could with a crank or t rig but i maybe got it out 30' or so.

i would cast it out then let it sit for maybe 20 seconds before i give it a couple twitches. i would do that a few times before lifting the rod tip to 12 o'clock to move the rig in. the strikes felt like taps then once i set the hook , the fight was on. i would suggest anyone who hasnt tried this rig from shore to give it a chance. i already have confidence in it.

while i wasnt sure about using EWG gammys since everyone suggests octopus or circle hooks i didnt have a problem setting hooks. the one in the pic threw the hook less than a foot from the bank so i had to reach in the water to lip em'.

.. i cant help but laugh at my expression in the picture though.  ;D i was trying to say something to my fiance while she was taking the pic.

Nice bass , you're becoming a better fisherman with every technique you learn.

thanks. while ive always been the type to use what works and not usually try anything else , this is one technique that does work.

i was using a 1/8oz weight on my light power rod. iirc , thats what is suggested and i dont see any light rod with a recommended lure weight of over 1/2oz.

i would say 1/4oz to 3/8 would be good.

Unless you are working vertically, any thing <1/2 oz. will not hold the bait in place.  I carry a few 3/4 oz. weights just for this.  My ML/XF spinning rod is rated to 1/2 oz., and it throws the heavier weights just fine.  If I am flinging the rig into heavy cover, then I'll use MH/F casting rig, with appropriate, heavier line.

Also remember that if you are casting from the bank then there will be a severe line angle from your rod to the weight.  You need to move the hook up the line to get the worm off the bottom just a little. It will actually make contact with the bottom and then move off it when you shake the rod tip.

the only casting weights i had with me were the 1/8oz. i will try a heavier weight next time but i did not have a problem catching them with the one i had.
