I have never used a snap for any of my crankbaits, but I got to admit, it is sometimes a pain in butt the retie a new lure on.

All my cranks have split rings on them. Can I just put the snap on the split ring or you only use a snap when there is no split rings?

may i be so bold to ask why you remove split ring not saying that it is better one way or another. i dont take split off and maybe i should would like to know thanks ken kindle

Remove the split ring before you put the snap on.

I assume I am suppose to remove the split rings before putting on a snap, but can I just put the snap on the split ring? how does it affect the bait movement and such anyways?

The snap attached to the split ring gives the lure another joint of motion, which takes away some of the action.

I use snaps on my hard baits in a practice situation or fun fishing. It is a quick easy way to change baits. I have not noticed a significant action lose though. But then again, I breath air and not water!
