Snaps???

do you tie directly to your crankbaits or do you use snaps or swivel snaps??? Do you guys use snaps for anything(jigs, cranks, etc) or does everyone tie directly to the bait, and if so, why??? Thanks for your help.

i use snaps on crankbaits that are deep divers with long bills , they are easier to use than wrestle my needlenose pliers in close enough to cut the line . plus i can change crankbaits quickly without re-tying . i use OFFSHORE ANGLER DUOLOCK SNAPS from BPS.

Bigger baits, yes.  Smaller baits, usually not.  I prefer Norman Speed Clips, but they can be a pain (sometimes literally) if your fingers are cold or wet, or really dry.

Even hook them to the split rings that I put on my baits.

Easy to change baits.

Will also use the snaps for regular hooks.

Do not use snaps with swivels unless I am fishing a Rooster Tail or small grub.

I don't use snaps and that is because the lake I fish has alot of grass and it seems that the snaps I have used in the past are grass catchers only. IMO

I use snaps/swivels on crankbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and the like.  I tie directly to all hooks and some top water hard baits.  With jigs I go back and forth.

I'm thinking about trying speed snaps this coming year.  A friend of mine started using them recently for Muskie fishing and says he'll never use regular snaps or swivels again.

After fishing with Bud and CJ on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes, I use

snaps on most hard baits. I do not use them with soft plastics, jigs,

buzzbaits, Mattlures Baby Bass or frogs.

Snaps with all crankbaits that dont have split rings. Use snaps with jerkbaits and topwaters that dont have split rings but if its a lure that is sensitive enought the action can be affected use a loop knot instead. Some lures work fine without snaps but they rarely hurt unless its a matter of extra weight. Dont use snaps for anything except hardbaits.

Snaps make changing lures easy, especially in cold weather.

I have used them on everything except plastics. This is something you don't want to skimp on. I use Sampo.

When fishing from shore, on in a small boat where I only take one or two rods, I use a very small bass snap for just about everything except were I need the weight to slide on the line (like the T-Rig).  Makes life easier, and I can't say that it affects the strike ratio much.

Norman speed clips here on my crankbaits all sizes  ..i dont use um on topwater  or anything else i do use ball bearin swivels on my mepps and panther martins though.Like others have said them normans are hard to hook up BUT they are bullet proof

All my cranks have split rings on them. Can I just put the snap on the split ring or you only use a snap when there is no split rings?

Remove the split ring before you put the snap on.

Depends on what you are fishing for and the lure of choice.  In freshwater I may use a duolock  tied on my leader for crankbaits, topwater plugs I always tie a loopknot.

In saltwater I limit the use of swivels and I always tie my leader to whatever lure or jig I'm using.  Mackeral will bite you off at the swivel so it's important to tie line to line(they even go after the knot sometimes).  My one exception is casting for larger barracuda with a spoon or tube, wire leader is very important.

may i be so bold to ask why you remove split ring   not saying that it is better one way or another. i dont take split off and maybe i should   would like to know  thanks ken kindle

I like to use snaps on cranks,topwaters and snaps with swivels on anything that may roll or twist like rooster tails or Wobblehead worms.

I assume I am suppose to remove the split rings before putting on a snap, but can I just put the snap on the split ring? how does it affect the bait movement and such anyways?
