Junebug Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 My wife got me a "Fish TV" for Christmas. For those of you who aren't familiar with Fish TV it is an underwater camera and monitor that is designed to allow you to see fish and underwater structure. She just gave it to me today, because she couldn't wait. I don't know if any of you have used one of these, or if you have heard anything about them. I checked the BPS website, and there haven't been any reviews written on it. I'm excited to use it to explore structure and look at the surface composition of my lake. The water is relatively clear, so if it works at all, I would think it would work on the lake that I fish the most. My questions are: Have you used one? Did you like it? Have you heard anything about them? Thanks. Here's a link: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_102310____SearchResults Quote
Garnet Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Exploring is fun put you can't fish when playing with your camera. Run your fishfinder and your camera at the same time and compare. Mine is 7 or 8 years old and I don't use it much anymore put willnot sell it. Garnet Quote
zbass Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 I have not used that model, but have used a camera quite a bit. There are a couple of things to remeber when using it. 1. Go at a very slow speed when you are looking for detail. 2. Size of fish is very relative. I never use mine to actually locate fish but to locate and become familar with structure and cover. Learning what is actually down there is great. You can also use it on a windless and currentless day to se exactly what your baits look like in the water. This helped me to fish certain baits differently. I do have a word of caution. It will eat a lot of time. Go into it knowing that and use the portion of the day for learning, not fishing. Also as far as how well can you see. The rule of thumb that I use is if you can see 6 feet down, you'll be doing good to se 3 feet out. That is relative to depth also. Hope that helps. Quote
Super User Raul Posted December 9, 2008 Super User Posted December 9, 2008 Kool gadget but with a lot of limitations, very useful if in your neck of the woods the water is crystal clear other than that just add a little turbidity and you can only see what the turbidity allows. Quote
skeeterman24 Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 I have a similar one to that and it is freekin cool. I was amazed to see how clear the picture was and what was down there. Not being able to turn them gets annoying when a fish swims away and you can't follow him but thiers not much you can do about that. I say give it a shot, you'll be amazed at what you'll find in areas you though you knew inside and out. Quote
Bass Dude Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I've been interested in those but never bought one. Two questions, if anyone can help: How long do those 10-C batteries last for? Does it come with an adapter or is battery your only power options? Quote
