shootermcbob Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 what is your favorite creature bait and how do you fish it??? I had some luck with both zoom brush hog and yamamoto flappin hog t-rigged with 1/8 weight this past summer. Quote
zbass Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Love the baby brush hog trigged. Great all around bait. Also have soft spot for the sweet beaver. Okay, quit it! you know what I mean! You can do a multitude of things with it. Can be a jig trailer, flipped behind heavy weight or weightless. Quote
FordNFishinLover Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Craws, all types, t-rigged and worked slow! Quote
Infidel. Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Green Pumpkin full sized brush hog t-rigged. Day or night, clear water or muddy, it has been my favorite for the last eight years. Quote
Mobydick Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 I prefer Zoom Brush Hogs, Berkely Power Hawgs, and Net Bait Paca Craw's. I fish them depending on where the fish are, and what the conditions are. If the water is muddy and rising, I will flip any of the 3 baits into shoreline cover as the water is rising. I use heavier line because the fish will be holding TIGHT to the cover, if you're not bumping the cover, you're most likely not catching anything. If the water is clear, I will move a little deeper. I dont have a problem using lighter line, such as 10 pound, and even using mono. In the clear water, I usually dont have to fish through the cover, just around it. I find that the fish will usually hold a few feet off the cover so they can see farther and have an expanded strike zone. If I find the fish are active and aggressive, I will use a heavier weight that will allow me to cast longer, and fish faster. The weight makes it fall faster, causing a reaction strike. I feel that I can fish it faster, when the fish are more active, they are more likely to chase something down. I think that it saves time, you can fish through the cover and their territorry faster, and still have them hit. If I find the fish are slow, and not as active, I use lighter weights. I use lighter weights to acheive a slower fall. I think the slower fall causes the fish to think twice about not hitting it, when it falls into their territorry very slowly, they tend to bite it because they feel threatened because it's not leaving as quick as they want it to. FR0G Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 My favorites are Double Wide Beavers, Sweet Beavers, and Brush Hogs, Baby Brush Hogs. Those both are proven fish catches and catch alot of fish for me. They work great as jig trailers too! Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Flappin hogs without a weight, flappin hogs t-rigged, and flappin hogs on a jig. oh yeah, and flappin hogs too. I'll also throw the Kreature, baby brush hogs, and flappin hogs. Quote
airborne_angler Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 While I was waiting for an order of *** Baby Bush Bugs,I decided to spend the money and buy some Zoom Baby Brush Hogs. I fished them with a small weight and hook(1/0)T-Rigged weedless at the base of some flooded trees and got bit pretty good, with a small hopping, shaking retrieve.Alot of times they would hit the bait on the fall. I then used the ones I got from Brent@*** and mopped the water with those. No real huge fish, but there were some decent numbers.I caught the same size fish with the Brush Hog/*** style bait as I did with the Stick Baits(If that tells you anything) Im glad I tried em,I was stuck on Senko's(Guess it could be worse,I couldve been stuck on stupid) and Stick baits are all I would throw until I tried the brush hogs and brush bugs. mattm Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Brent's *** is an awesome bait. The longer tails and garlic scent make it superior to the original. Plus, it come with chahrtrse tail without having to lug die around your boat. It is hands down the best bait Brent sales. I can catch fish with the flappin hog where they won't bite the bush buh but at the same time I catch them on the on the *** when they won't bite the hog. I jump up and down when they are biting the bug b/c I know tje days fishing is going to cost me about 10 dollars per 50 vs 7 per 8 fish on the hog. Anyone that hasn't tried the *** *** is really missing the boat. I've caught more fish on it than any other the last two years. Viva la ***. Quote
Primus Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 I use Sweet Beavers, Brush Hogs, Baby Brush Hogs, Speed Craws & Baby Paca Craws Carolina rigged or Texas rigged with 1/8 oz sinkers up to 3/4 oz for casting to get a reaction strike. Sometimes even heavier sinkers come into play when flipping grass mats. I'm going to have to try the *** Brush Hogs sounds like they are an improvement to an already great bait. Quote

BassFishingMachine Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 My top 3 creaturebaits are (in no particular order) 1. Yum Wooly Hawgtail {I mostly fish this bait weightless, and crawl/twitch it over the top of thick weed mats. When I come to a hole in the mats, I'll let the bait fall into it, if nothing happens after 6-8secs, I'll bring it back up, and proceed to twitch/crawl it over the mats. I also catch fish just casting it out, and letting it slowly fall, then bringing it up, and letting it fall again, as you would a stickbait. But my most productive way of fishing this bait is over the mats.} 2. Zoom Baby Brush Hog {This bait I fish it pretty much like a jig. I always use a bullet weight with it, and either peg or free slide, depending on the cover. I pretty much flip/pitch/ or cast, the bait to cover, and let it fall on a semi slack line. I'll let the bait sit paused for a good 5-8secs on the intitial fall, as these are when I get most strikes. If nothing happens, I'll give the bait a small hop or two, and then a 3-6 sec pause, feeling for any taps, then I might crawl the bait a few inches followed by a pause, and then another hop or 2 followed by another pause...and so on until I've worked the bait fully back to me. 3. Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver {I fish/rig this bait the exact same way as I do the baby brush hog. Only difference is I find due to its shape, it slides through the weeds/lillys easier, due to this, Its usually my first choice when it comes to flipping/pitching the weeds/lillys with a creature. (sometimes I'll throw a GYCB Kreature too) Quote
