fire22driver Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Spent the day on a lake that I have been to only a couple of times, usually with decent luck. Although today I was skunked with only a few dinks. The lake has allot of submerged timber and averages 20 feet deep. I spent most of my time on the timber, near the shoreline. Did spend some time looking for deep cover with electronics and the bottom seems to be very flat. Threw cranks, worms (finesse Texas and Carolina rigs) and swim-baits, fast slow and in between. I need some ideas on what else to try. The temps are in the mid to upper 70s. The fish I did catch were in the early AM after that things just died out as the sun came up. :'( :'( Need fresh ideas, I will be at the lake for the week, and need something to change my luck. The only bright side is that talking with some other anglers at the docks, they had little luck also. > :( Quote
Bass_Akwards Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Huck a jig or a shakey head in the timber. Is there vegetation? Is the any brown and dying weeds? If so, brown weeds tend to house many more bass than green weeds do. That brown color gets warmer than the green does just like black top on the driveway gets hotter in the sun than your lawn does, and the bass know it. They love hanging just under the mats with their backs pretty much touching the bottom of the mat. Get a nice 1oz weight and drop into the cover. Let your bait fall to the bottom and then lift it up near the bottom of the mats and wiggle it etc. Let it fall rise and mess around with different jerking motions and speeds. Quote
fire22driver Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 No weeds or grass. Did try a shaky head, forgot that earlier. Also, tossed a jig but very little will try more jigging tomorrow. Quote
aarogb Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Heres what I would do: First off go get a map (if there is one of the lake you are fishing) and look on the map to where the timber is. While looking at the timber on the map look for creek channels and other structure. If you do this it will save you a lot of time from fishing unproductive water and it will also save you time from motoring around slow looking for bottom features on you Lowrance. Quote
TxHawgChaser1 Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 don't know how many rods your taking but if you have a few you might try this........... first rod- dropshot with a zoom trick worm or strke king shimmey stick second rod- chatterbait- or double willow leaf spinnerbait third rod- zoom fluke watermelon is a good color...... and you also might try with the dropshot letting the bait just sit there 30 seconds before you ever start working it............... Super User Hammer 4 Posted September 18, 2009 Super User Posted September 18, 2009 Without knowing more about that lake, I can only say, turn your back to the shore, look at the deeper water with structure, and as The Dock Master said, creek channels, ect..I would also toss some jigs plus a DS.
