My buddy called me while I was on the way to a job 3 states away yesterday to give me a fish story.  It all began when him and his dad where topwater fishing with zara spooks.  He said I cast way out and gave it the side to side action about twice when this crane came swooping down from the trees to pick the spook off the water....The fight was on after that >:(.  He said it looked like I was flying a kite ::) as my father yelled cut your line.  At $5.00 the bait had to be retrieved though he said.  I finally brought the bird down with the aid of 15LB P-line and reeled him up to the side of the boat where dad had to paddle ready and began persuading the crane to give up the bait.  He then said "It wasn't a pretty site for the ol bird".  He finally retrieved his spook and was on his way.  Has anyone ever had an aerial attack such as this??

I once had some ducks try to know my minnow.i was reeling it up when these ducks just landed on the bait. Thankfully the bait sank just before the "attack".

I'd love to fish and hunt at the same time!

Got a gull in the face with a Sammy tonight.  No gulls in sight, made my cast, looked away for a split second, and the sucker grabbed the bait!  What a mess, felt bad for the stupid bird.  I was able to remove the hook, after clipping the barb off, and he flew away just fine.

I went striper fishing on the bay last weekend and we found a few birds swarming up. We started casting out towards them and I ended up casting right over a seagull in mid flight. He kept flying and pull my bait up out of the water. Luckily I was able to keep my bait from hooking him but it was close.

when I was 14 or 15 I was live bait fishing from a pier in the brackish waters of the indian river. we noticed a particular pelican that hanging around the dock and would NOT fly away no matter what, finally we threw something in the direction of it (not at it, the goal was to scare it, not hurt it) and it tried, only to fail miserably. seems a Chug bug was stuck between the sac under its beak and the wing.so three of us cast net it, held it down and removed the lure. (pelicans have very sharp beaks, easily capable of slicing your hand open) afterward we threw it back into the water, it immediately flew up, dd a circle over us as if to say thanks, and flew away. I'm fairly confident that helped in saving that birdslife as it looked like it was starting to go hungry... I still have the chug bug in my collectibles/ momentos collection

Hmmm, great idea for a new thread..... "Regional Names for Critters!"

Up here, our favorite name for Seagulls in The Dump Chicken!

Always a real good idea to keep a pair of leather gloves in the boat when you have to remove a hook from one of those darn things.

"dump chicken"......... ;D ;D

once when i was very young, i was fishing at the everglade's holiday park with nightcrawlers, when i "cast" (it was on a cane pole with bobber ;D) it out...... a mocking bird swopped down to catch the worm, and subsequently hooked itself in the rib cage!

i was able to pull it in, and my dad unhooked the bird.

It's happened to me before. Worst I've hooked into while bass fishing would be an alligator.

I was working a Spro frog across the top of some matted grass one evening. I never saw the gator at the time. But on one particular cast, it was coming through his area and he whipped around and clamped down on it. He was about 4 ft. and I was using powerpro (65lb.). I fought with him for awhile expecting the line to eventually break. After a few minutes, I ended up cutting the line. I'm not sure what I would have ever done with him had I brought him to the boat.  ;)

Fishing a buzzbait out of the front of the boat at sunrise, an owl came out of the trees and its talons actually hit the water about 4 inches behind the buzz. I was a little amazed, and thankfull it missed, would have felt really bad hurting an owl.
