THEbassmaster Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 went out to my favorite lake today and decided id try my hardest to only throw the big baits. well i stuck to that and was happy i did. started throwing the Slammer. nothin happenin so i tied on the Lunker Punker Jr. i got a nice 3-8 pretty fast. then a little later i got a 2-15. then i got a couple pike, 27" and 31" man do these things come out of the water like a rocket! they came completely outta the water, i wish a cam corder was on that!! lol. a little later i had another 2-3lber but threw it on the jump..then i used a 6"baitcmith with nothin...went back to the spot we were getting bit and got a 15" on the Slammer. that was all, 3 bass and 2 pike, all keepers and missed another keeper. my dad was throwing a sammy and got 4 bass n 2 pike, NONE keepers. im convinced big baits catch big fish(well keepers today lol). i cant wait to get back out and give em another try....IM HOOKED!!! lol 3-8 2-15 31" pike Quote

THEbassmaster Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 thanks guys. went out again today and got a nice 3lber on my handmade Slammer look-alike. missed 3 on that and the punker:( oh well, plenty more to come;) now that i have some confidence in topwater swimbaits, i need to focus on sinking/diving ones and get some confidence in those as well. Rand: i have an Okuma Guide Select 7'11" H with a Shimano Cardiff 300 and 20# Pline CXX. worked great so far for me. Quote

D3 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 good job man I love the way those lures look in the water I also need to gain some confidence in them. How deep of water were the pike inn where you caught them and also what is the depth of the lake like. I am addicted to pike through the ice but have not yet targeted them on open water. D3 Quote
Big Phish Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Nice, I'm sure that pike was a pleasant suprise. Quote

THEbassmaster Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 Thanks Guys. good job man I love the way those lures look in the water I also need to gain some confidence in them. How deep of water were the pike inn where you caught them and also what is the depth of the lake like. I am addicted to pike through the ice but have not yet targeted them on open water. D3 one was up on a flat in about 5ft, the bigger one was right by a little drop off by the same flat in probably 7ft at the deepest. Tin: Sorry, but i dont like the sox lol. i dont really watch much MLB baseball, though college and LLWS is more fun to watch to me. REDS! lol aaron Quote
