Dalton Tam Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 We had our first highschool tournament this weekend on a local river and I came in second with 9.27 lbs and first place came in with 9.36 lbs. It was very close and I'm still happy that I got second but I'm not even the least satisfied. My fishing partner had one fish on his line about 2 1/2 lbs, I told him to wait and let me get the net but he thought he could swing it in on his rod but it came off as he picked up on it. That was his mistake.....my mistake may be worse. I loaded my boat on the trailor and drove it to the weigh in. Everyone was rushing me to weigh my fish in so i through them into the weigh bag without any water in it which could have changed the outcome of the tournament beens how there was only a difference of 9 one hundredths of an ounce. Every tournament has been a learning experience for me so far and I won't make that mistake again. Quote
VolFan Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Make sure you make it to math on monday. That's 9/100th of a pound. Quote

Super User Gatorbassman Posted August 31, 2009 Super User Posted August 31, 2009 That's a good showing. Congrats. Never let anyone rush you to a weigh-in. Once you check in and the clock stops take your time and take care of your fish. I've never heard of someone being DQ'd for being last to the scales. Quote

Once you check in and the clock stops take your time and take care of your fish. I've never heard of someone being DQ'd for being last to the scales. Amen to that. This past team tx, we had a fish in trouble, and the TD was yelling at us to get moving. I told him I wasn't even thinking of putting my fish in the bag until he had the scales setup. We babysat that bugger for the last three hours, and I'd damned if I was going to let it die waiting for the TD to set up. We came in second as well. The fish was alive for the weigh in. Had we been assessed the penalty, we'd have dropped to 5th. I gave it to another club member, since I knew it would be turtle food in a few hours. Anyway, congrats on a solid 2nd. So many things have to go right to come in 1st. Consistent top finishes are more important. Incidentally, I am currently in the hunt for our club's classic, and I haven't even fished all the events. Keep it up with the strong finishes! Quote

Bull Hurley Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Make sure you make it to math on monday. That's 9/100th of a pound. I would call it 9/10th of an ounce, sounds closer when you can use the word ounce instead of pound. And carrying the fish to the scales dry could have definitely cost you that much weight. Quote
Super User CWB Posted September 2, 2009 Super User Posted September 2, 2009 Great job! Were the fish O.K. without the water in the bag? Man I wish there was Highschool fishing 50 years ago ;D when I was in Highschool. Probably would have kept me out of a ton of trouble. Congrats and consider yourself lucky to have that available to you and best of luck in the future! Quote
