Super User burleytog Posted August 1, 2009 Super User Posted August 1, 2009 Fished the wildcat tourney on Boone Lake tonight. And what a night it was. For most of the night, it seemed like I could do no wrong. Any decision I made was the right one. Put the first keeper in the boat around 8:30 on a crank. Good fat 16" LMB. Kept going down the bank, decided to put the crank down and throw the jig for a while. Third cast, caught this pig. First fish on the new Core 50. Spent a little more time in there, no more bites, so we moved. Went back to a creek we had hit before dark, I laid the jig down and picked up the crankbait again. Bam, keeper LMB. Stayed in the creek for about 45 minutes, nothing else working, so head to a spot my partner had done well on in the past. Pull up to the first dock, lay down the crank and throw the jig. Second cast, bam! Laid the hammer on a good keeper LMB. Work another 50 yards down the bluff, hammer a 14 3/4" smallie (gotta be 15 to keep). After that my jig bite died and they didn't want the crank either. We ran up the Holston side and tried a few different places. Went to a spot where I'd gotten a couple of bites two weeks ago, I didn't get anything, but my partner got a keeper about 5 minutes after pulling up. We had one fish that barely measured, so we needed to cull him. Went point hopping over the last hour, just couldn't get the fish we needed to cull that 15 incher. Get back to the weigh-in, I figure we've got 8 or 9 lbs. Ended up with 10-6. Packed up our gear and then went back to get the results. We got announced in 4th place, got the money, then had it snatched away. They had missed a 10-8 bag on the sheet. So we finished in 5th place. Not a bad night considering my last trip over there. Took 17 and change to win, there were only five sacks over 10, so I gotta feel good about that. Quote
Skinnyh2ofishin Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Well, ya might not have made the money, but congrats on being close anyway. Sounds like a good outing overall and it'll just make you want it that much more the next time. Quote
Big-O Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 In the money or not....fine outing for sure and in the future, you're gonna have a hard time calling yourself a "Dink catcher" with results like that Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Shimmer Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Thats a tough one but looks like you had some fun..and got to try out the new Core. Were you throwin the same colors on your jig/crank all night or did you change them up at all? Quote
Super User cart7t Posted August 2, 2009 Super User Posted August 2, 2009 Your dink master status is now officially over. You've moved to the next level. Weighing in a sack in any Tournament that puts you that close to the top elevates you to >dinkmaster. Nice job. Quote
skillet Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 X2 on >dinkmaster ! Pretty darn good night... skillet Quote

bottledgt Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 some of those fish dead? i always see dead fish floating at the dock after a tournament. lots of nice 4+ lbers too. makes me sick Quote
Super User burleytog Posted August 11, 2009 Author Super User Posted August 11, 2009 Sure Life products = no dead fish in the livewell. I've only had one dead fish this year and that thing was dead before I caught it, it just didn't know it yet. Quote
Mrs. Matstone Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 You may not have won but you did very well. Nice smallie! Congrats to you. ;D Quote
bottledgt Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 yeah, i dont know who uses that stuff or dont, but ive seen all the fish swim off after a tourney only to see a whole bunch floating the next day. it really sucks. as many tournaments that happen, there needs to be something done about that, even if its shortening the time on the water Quote
