ptomacbass Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 They are actually really docile. I have never seen another person catch one, and I have seen hundreds in the section of the river I fish. They spook very easily too. Quote
daviscw Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I haven't read through all the posts here, but the snakeheads are posing no threat to the largemouth population. I don't understand why people are getting their panties in a wad. Quote
PAbassdude Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I saw the show BadKarma was talking about and it was pretty interesting although they tried to make it as dramatic as possible. They showed one guy over in Asia somewhere that was supposedly attacked by one, but I know of guys that have had pike take a whack at them but that doesn't make them the equivalent of a freshwater Jaws either. Any invasive species is bad news, but the way they make these Snakeheads sound so super aggressive, it should be a piece of to catch them and from what I hear, it's not that easy. I think the biggest problem they pose is competing with native fish for food. At the rate they reproduce, it could become a problem for sure. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted August 12, 2009 Super User Posted August 12, 2009 I just fished with a Potomac guide that fishes primarily in one of the most highly invaded areas of the river. He says that of the snakeheads that have been caught he has never heard of one that had bass inside of it. On the other hand, he has cleaned and heard of plenty of bass that have had baby snakeheads in their bellies. We've already had this discussion before. Invasive species are bad because of the unforeseeable consequences that they might have on an ecosystem...BUT...in the case of the Potomac River, they have not created any noticeable changes in the ecosystem. Desultory Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 So what's a good Snakehead recipe? How did you prepare them? Quote
ptomacbass Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 First, filet the Snakehead. Next, cut the filets of Snakehead into chunks. Dip the chunks in cornmeal, then dip them in egg, and then in cornmeal. Then you deep fry them in corn oil. You can add salt if you want to. Quote
