bottledgt Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 went night fishing last night about midnight. set out and away we went went about 5 minutes and got to a slow zone where a lot of stickups are. lo and behold, i roll over one. happens every time i go fishing. i let up on throttle a touch and let it roll on over it. then i happen to notice a little water on the floor in the moonlight.i looked behind me and just lost it. the whole back was underwater. we both freaked but somehow kept cool and thought quick. i hit the bilge pump and jumped for the trolling motor. somehow i trolled a couple minutes to shore and we jumped out and got the boat sideways as far to the bank as we could.it was then i had time to think. i had put the plug in the boat i knew it. i couldnt reach it to check,so i had to dive under. what i found really ticked me off. i had stuck it in the livewell feed line instead since they are right next to each other somehow. and looking back, im not sure if the boat would have sunk any deeper than it was, but i didnt want to find out. we spent the next hour holding the back up and keeping the boat above water so it could pump out. eventually we could move it closer to shore and then i used the power trim to raise the back more cause water kept coming back in the vents, which is what made it sink so fast. when we noticed water it was too late. it literally engulfed the back of the boat in mere seconds.BUT we got it back afloat and never really lost anything and we still went fishing, lol. just had to troll everywhere. SO, good thing i never go out alone, especially at night. simple mistake=bad bad times that could have been way way worse Quote

RobE Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Don't think you're the first one to pull that stunt. :-[ Quote
bottledgt Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 oh i know its probly happened alot. i just never dreamed it would go down like that ,that fast. but it does have a 175 on the back, so it aint exactly light. and the fishing turned out ok, halfway decent night. except the good fish spit the bait and hit my buddy square in the forehead with a deep diver crank. no hooks got him though thank god. but for sure, most eerie feeling in my life ever when that water came in. i htought the boat was gone Quote
RobE Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Yep, I learned my lesson the first time. I went with a non-boat friend and asked him to put it in while I removed straps. I failed to check his work. Never again. When I launched, I thought at first that I had a loose prop or something as the boat was very sluggish. That's when I felt my shoes getting soaked and yelled for him to back the trailer back in. Felt kinda like a Bill Dance Moment. Here's one on me, though. I once had a couple of friends out for a day of skiing. We would stop at times and I would anchor and fish while they rested. Well, back to skiing we went. When my buddy yelled "Hit It", I did and I nearly drowned him. THREE TIMES! It's impossible to get a skier up while dragging a 12 pound anchor. ;D Quote

bottledgt Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 well it was dark so i dont know, but i do know i thought it hit the side of the boat but it had a duller sound...lol. it had to hurt. probly a 4 lb bass that threw it and he was pulling hard. and my camera was a little wet from the incident and i was afraid of even trying to turn it on. may be junk,i havent tried it yet. im hoping the motor is ok. i ran it over with the plugs out and i cant see but a couple drops of water that came out and it never cranked over since that happened cause i didnt want to hydrolock it and make a bad night worse. it just took awhile to troll back to dock. 1 1/2 hrs to be exact...lol. im just amazed the bilge pump kept running and all the elctronics never failed on anything. i kept waiting for a fuse to blow since the fuse panel was a ft under water. hell everything electric was under water. oyu could feel the current in the water in the boat when we were bailing water, but we pretty much had no choice and i really didnt want to make the news if possible Quote
