Big-O Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Now that the ICAST pressures off, I've been taking some time to fish a little and a couple of my guys bought new fishing rigs and asked me to ck'em out on the lake with'em....WOOO-HOOOO that means mine stays in the garage and they get to Cheauffeer me around the lake. NOW were Talkin' ;D On Tuesday night I went fishing with Clay. We got to the lake at 5:30 pm and marked spots for a couple of hours then started fishing. Caught several at each stop but size was lacking so we kept moving. Finally after it was good and dark we slipped over to an area that had produced several nice sized fish for me in the past and there was no one around to see us so we eased up and started fishing. Both of us screwed up and let 2 really big fish beat us down and come loose before we could get them in the boat but we did manage to get a picture of another fish...not quite the size of the other two but it'll do A film of this session would have been priceless cause there was some jumpin, jerkin, slashin, slammin, cussin and cryin goin on for a while there and we were laughing and making fun of each others screw up's The following night I went with Matt and he has been fishing with me since he was a little boy and has turned out to be one heck of a Fisherman. We had fished a couple weeks ago and a GIANT of a lifetime broke his line right at the boat because he got her too close too quick and he wasn't prepared for the WAR She showed no mercy and acted as if he was a child with a Snoopy Pole ;D He Yelled "Big O....HOW BIG WAS SHE!!!!!" and I said "Well, when her gills flappin sounds like a Truck Hood Slammin'.....She Aint No Little Girl" So Wed night we went to a lake that I haven't fished for several months. The early Summer tourney traffic is rediculous on this one so I try to avoid it until about now. We got to the first spot and since there was no other boat within sight.....First Cast I made - tug - set - line snap...OHHH, I forgot about my previous outing where I was fishing Bridge pilings and my line must have freyed. So I pulled off 30 ft or so and re-tied for another go. Next cast - tug - set - line snap ARGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I told Matt it was me that felt like a Beginner now because I should've known better. I re-spooled and Thump - Thump - Thump the fish were landing in the boat Also below is a photo of a nice one that Matt caught....He had to support his arm on this fish, but it was a dink compared to the giant he lost a couple of weeks ago. He won't hear the end of that one for a long time.....I'll see to that ;D Big O www.ragetail.com Quote

Super User Hammer 4 Posted July 25, 2009 Super User Posted July 25, 2009 Well, I'm totally envious..nice goin guys..wish we had lakes like that around here... :-/ Quote
skeetermike Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Yeah, we don't have quite that calibar of fish on our lakes either. I noticed you guys were using the big serpents!! They're always a fav. of mine. I think the bigger and the darker the better too. Course today my dad was throwing one bout that size and I had 4 fish boated on my bread and butter, the C-rig before he finally switched. You get to where you know when they take the bait how big they are, nearly. I like those that swim out to deeper water, even though they are hard to catch up to. Or those that give a healthy thump then go to the side with it. I lost a giant the other day on a big worm myself. So fat she couldn't get outa the water very good! Quote
rondef Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Big O, those certainly are some nice hawgs. It looks like that thumper worm was performing well. Quote
dilloniowa Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Does bass like night time? I thought they usually like during morning when its pretty cool. Back on topic, those are nice bass. Quote
-HAWK- Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Way to go man! Those are both monsters. Question, What time of night do you find night fishing to really turn on. Quote
Hemi6677 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Very nice fish! I had a night fishing trip this weekend that I will post on here once I can post pictures. I think I found my new favorite way of fishing! Quote

Super User RoLo Posted July 27, 2009 Super User Posted July 27, 2009 WOWEE....You boys don't mess around Roger Quote
Super User flechero Posted July 27, 2009 Super User Posted July 27, 2009 Big-O, you guys are on some salty fish! Quote
Big-O Posted July 28, 2009 Author Posted July 28, 2009 dillioniowa.....Yes, many bass will feed at night especially when the Summer days get really hot, plus I fish nights to avoid the sun and heat too HAWK.....As far as a time that the fish really turn on, IMO they are normally most active from dusk til 2am. I think there is a transition period where dew point has somewhat of an affect on their feeding habits. But I have also seen where certain fish will eat regardless but may have moved a little deeper after dew point until the normal dawn feeding period. long_horn basser.....I was fishing Still House on 7/21 and Fork 7/22, maybe one of those is close to you if you're from Texas Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Super User flechero Posted July 29, 2009 Super User Posted July 29, 2009 I was fishing Still House on 7/21 Well, I just missed you, I was on Stillhouse on 7/22... as the storms were building above us and the 30MPH winds kicked up. ;D Needless to say we didn't stay long. ...lol Quote

Big-O Posted July 30, 2009 Author Posted July 30, 2009 To quote Frank Barone "Holy Crap!" Were you guiding them Steve? When can I come down? Nope....I'm retired from that stuff. I was just helping the Boys with some of the "where's and why's" on those two lakes Clay is a Wounded Iraq Vet and Matt is like a son to me. Both of'em had new Electronics for their boats and wanted some help marking the lakes for future references. Might as well fish while I'm doin' all that work if you know what I mean Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Super User CWB Posted July 30, 2009 Super User Posted July 30, 2009 Gotta love it. Your heart is every bit as big as your desire to provide excellence in your designs. Can't say it enough. If there were more guys around like you, the world would be a much better place. My hat's off to you, Big-O! Quote
