Bass Junkie Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I wentout a few days ago and did the best I've done in my life. Plain and simple. It all started on a rather bad day, a little chilly, quite a bit of wind, and no bites. One of the guys I was fishin' with had a nice one on for all of three seconds before it got off. I started by burnin' a Mann's The Classic spinnerbait with no sucess, then switched to a spinnerbait I bought at a local tackle-shop. No bites. So far I've been fishin' weed beds and rip-rap in clear water. We start goin' along this shallow section of the bank, shallow enough that the custom painted Storm Thunderstick Junior I was throwin' was collectin' mud. No bites. We hit a couple of trees, but again no bites. Finally we anchor down in a nice laydown for I don't know, an HOUR and I got one little tap that was prollay a rock bass. I'm throwin' a t-rigged craw with an un-pegged bullet sinker. We go across the lake, and I pull out a 5" soft stickbait, aka Dinger. T-rig it weightless and pitch it into this tree. Two casts and TAP TAP!!! A whole 10 1/4 inches of largemouth. I think WOW a FISH!!! As this is my first fish in half a day. I hop out onto the tree(Its a massive laydown) and start pitchin between every nick and cranny. Before we left I got an 111/4" largemouth, and the others guys caught a small muskie and the biggest rockbass I've ever seen. This tree is on a whole line of laydowns, so we start fishin' the rest. Two trees down frowm the big tree I nail an 12 and some odd inch Largemouth. We work our way down the shore and a ways down I pick up an 8" off a shallow rock. We anchor over the next tree and while the others try for crappie I try the ABC princible. It works, I pick my second legal out of the bottom of a stump, another twelve incher. We finally move to another tree. Last time I had been here i had had several dinks follow my bait from a spot with little scattered weed patches. I start tossin' my dinger over there and dedad stickin' it. No bites. So I work it like a fluke. BAM!!! Big strike. I jam the rod back hard, and feel a whole lot of nothing. Nuts!!!! I feel sick. I try the dinger a couple more times, then switch to a Storm Kickin' Minnow. No bites. I'm still consitrating on these weeds as I know theres a big 'un in there. No bites so I switch. For some reason I tie on a Heddon Torpedo. I toss it out there and try 2 or 3 different retrieves. No good. So I tried a almost walk the dog retreive. BOOM!!! Huge boil. I've fished topwater a lot and have had many big blow ups. None like this. I slam the steel home this time, and boy oh boy, my 7ft. ML bows up!!!! The fish makes numerous jumps, but in glary water, so I don't see this fish to well. Get him up to the boat and he's still fightin' like crazy. Thats when I see him. It's a SMALLMOUTH!!! I've only caught four out of this lake in three years. None like this, or so I think. Finally get this hawg in the boat and go to unhook him. 19" on by one point of the front treble. Yikes!!! Well I whoop it up, then go back to fishin'. We go along the shore line and after a bit come to a nice little pile of about 3 six foot sticks. I toss a dinger right into it, let it freefall, then pull in the slack when its on the bottom. I feel resistance so I slam home the steel. Into a limb. NUTS!!!! I give it a big pull and all of a sudden a big pull comes back. When I land This hog, its a five pound largemouth. That wraps up the day, but what a day!!!!!!!!! Sorry, no pics :'( :'( Hey, at least I got two witnesses : Quote
