kid with a rapala Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 ok i was wondering if u guys always use trailers on your jigs or not and if they work just fine with out them? Quote
JT Bagwell Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 If you are talking about a Flippin', Pitchin' or Swimmin' jig, I ALWAYS use some kind of trailer on them. For Pitchin' and Flippin' I like to use Fat Baby Craws from Yamamoto and for Swimmin' jigs I use the Yamamoto 5" grub. JT Bagwell Quote
nwgabassmaster Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 If you are talking about the jigs like the Strike King Pro Model jigs and the Bitsy Bugs................then yes, I always use a trailer. For the Pro Model jigs, I match them with a Zoom Super Salty Chunk, and with the Bitsy Bugs/Flips, I have found the Arkie Craws and they look really good on there. Quote
kid with a rapala Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 ok thanks alot guys im really getting into jigs now so thanks for the help Quote
Jeff_NHBA Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 The trailer also helps slow the fall of the lure which is the time when most fish will hit it. I try to match the color of the trailer with the jig and for some added color i"ll dip the claws in Spike's Dip-It (chartreuse). Quote
djmax22 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 My advice is pick up some Eakins Jig (Peanut Butter and Jelly) and use Chompers Hula Grub matching the jig. I have slayed them with this combo. It is my go to bait. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 9, 2006 Super User Posted March 9, 2006 I always use a trailer. I particularly like the GYCB Fat Baby Craw. Quote
CJ Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 If it is a bass jig use a trailer.I like Netbaits Paca Chunk! RW,I know you know your stuff but if you haven't tried these on your smallies you really need to get some they ROCK! Quote
Bass Hunter12 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 always use some sort of trailer. Although my friend caught a 6lber with no trailer on a pink jg. Quote
bassmasta7 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I always fish with a trailer when fishing for LM. When I fish for sm it depends on the skirt if i use a trailer or not. Quote
bubbler Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Alaways use eather a pork rind or a plastic trailor. These will aloways out fish a jig without a trailor and will produce more strikes. Quote
basspro48 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I always add a trailer on every jig I use. It makes the bait appear more natural and it gives the jig better and more action. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted January 31, 2007 Super User Posted January 31, 2007 Always use a trailer either a craw type chunk or a single tail grub for swimming jigs. Allen Quote
WhiteMike1018 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I couldnt imagine using a jig without a trailer. Quote
Al Wolbach Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I always use a trailer. Netbaits Paca Chunk, Sr....................Al Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted January 31, 2007 Super User Posted January 31, 2007 Check out the new jig I found Verticallures.com cool jig!!!!!!! ;) Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted January 31, 2007 Super User Posted January 31, 2007 I've never fished a jig without a trailer. I have no idea if they'd work without one. I suppose they would, at least in some odd situations. Cheers, GK Quote
harshman Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 I always fish a jig with a trailer. Everything from pork, plastic pork, single and twin tail grubs. You name it I've probally tried to use it as a trailer Harshman Quote
Valascus Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Always use a trailer here as well. It would be kinda weird not to. Quote
Lard_Bass Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Does it matter to match color of the skirt and trailer? Also, how do you chose which type of trailer (frog legs, double tail grubs, grubs, craws, etc.)? Quote
Super User senile1 Posted February 1, 2007 Super User Posted February 1, 2007 Does it matter to match color of the skirt and trailer? Also, how do you chose which type of trailer (frog legs, double tail grubs, grubs, craws, etc.)? Generally, I like for the trailer color to match up with the jig to some extent. You want it to look natural. I use trailers that imitate craws under normal jigging situations. When swimming a jig, the other trailers mentioned in your post are useful, though some people will use twin tail grubs when jigging on bottom as well. Quote
