Omaha Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 My brother is asking for fishing accessories for Christmas (and birthday which I missed :-[). He's a relatively inexperienced fisherman and lives in Wisconsin. What assortment of lures, weights, hooks, etc. would you suggest for him? And any "guides" to help him be successful up there. I'll spend anywhere from $50 - $100. I'll start off with the common baits, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and plastic worms. What else should I throw in? Quote

Super User firefightn15 Posted December 3, 2008 Super User Posted December 3, 2008 I am by no means a guide, but I might be able to put him on some good water if I knew about were he was. There's acouple others on here from the LaCrosse and GreenBay area who maybe able to help also. As far as specifics, the fish hit the same stuff up here as they do in other regions. Do you know what kind of fishing he does? Quote

Omaha Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 I am by no means a guide, but I might be able to put him on some good water if I knew about were he was. There's acouple others on here from the LaCrosse and GreenBay area who maybe able to help also. As far as specifics, the fish hit the same stuff up here as they do in other regions. Do you know what kind of fishing he does? The lakes he'll be fishing are Green Lake, Fox, Elkhart, Michigan, and Winnebago. The obvious fish he'll be going for is walleye and I picked up a crankbait yesterday, a yellow perch, since it appears that's what they have up there. Looks like Green Lake has a lot of white bass which I'm not familiar with, Elkhart has some musky and pike, and Lake Michigan has the salmon and trout. Does this sound right? I found the '08 Report that I'll put in the box for him along with the different lures. I'll check out the top 10 list and reference that as well. Quote

Super User firefightn15 Posted December 4, 2008 Super User Posted December 4, 2008 Omaha, he's a site your bro might be interested in if he hasn't found it. Good for local fishing reports. This is a great group of guys here at BR and I can't imagine going anywhere else for help and expertise, but when I want to see what's going on with local fishing, this is where I go. http://www.lake-link.com/fishreports/ Quote

fivesixone Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 I was looking at that kit as well... Looks like a bunch of really nice lures at an excellent price! Figured it would be sold out though plus I ain't tryin' to go out shopping on Black Friday. If it happens to go on sale again, I'd definitely pick it up. Quote
