Big-O Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 There have been many questions on the best way to fish the new Rage Anaconda worms and as is typical with most new bait designs, the pro's most often show us the way on new ideas. Greg Hackney (Hack-a-Tack) was using the 10" Rage Anaconda with a 3/8 to 1/2 oz. Texas-rig and just slowly turning the reel handle as he crawled the Anaconda across a hard bottom and down an drop. With this technique, he set the new all-time 3-day heavyweight record at 109 lbs. 6 oz. (15 fish), as he won the FLW East/West fish-off at Falcon Lake in late November. BTW, that's an average of 7.30lbs per fish. Here is a link with details: http://flwserieswest.flwoutdoors.com/tournament.cfm?cid=11&t=news&tday=3&atype=6&tid=6044&tyear=2008&aid=149365 My experiences with the 10" Anaconda show that this technique along with slow retrieve on a Carolina-rig work extremely well in most of the lakes I have fished. The 10" Anaconda is a big worm. IMO, the minimum size hook to use with the Annie is a 5/0 EWG. I prefer 6/0 on both EWG and standard offset, longshank, heavywire hooks. I also use a lighter 1/4 oz TX-rig in shallow areas (to 10 ft) in and around grass, sticks, etc. Swimming the Anaconda through the grass weightless or with a keel-weighted hook and letting it fall slowly in the pockets has produced many quality size fish for me as well. Each has their favorites when it comes to color, and I am a fan of RedBug for the red side and GreenPumpkin or BamaBug for the green side. One color that is quickly becoming one of my top choices is BigTex (BlackNeon-oneside/ Tan&Orange&GreenFlake- opposite). Looks like a real snake.......... Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 4, 2008 Super User Posted December 4, 2008 That's great but when I see footage of him actually casting it out and getting a fish I will believe it. A few times on the Bassmasters I have seen him say he is catching fish on one thing on stage, then in footage on the water he is clearly using something else. Lake Norman sticks out in my mind... Quote
mrbassky Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I agree. He may have caught some fish on crankbaits as well. Usually they throw multiple lures in 3-4day tournaments. You hear a couple events were won on magic swimmers for example but Kenyon Hill caught alot of his fish on crig and Evers used a osprey swimbait as well. Dont count on seeing the footage because FLW east/west fishoff may not be on tv. Quote
mrbassky Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Besides I think baits are overatted usually. The spring event on BASS event on Falcon was won on 10in worm (and crankbait) as well. Another good 10in worm probably would worked. All that shows is if you need a 10in worm an anacoda is a good option. Its not an innovative must have lure. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 4, 2008 Super User Posted December 4, 2008 I don't know about "unique" or "must have", but you might want to give them a try. The bait looks huge in the water and its action is superb. It was killer for me this summer. 8-) Quote
Big-O Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 Greg must have ate the 30 packs of Annie's himself that were sent to him via overnight mail on the second day of practice. Oh, and there were 10 packs of Rage Lobsters in that shipment as well for jig trailers........ Wonder if he ate the jigs too????? I'll Have to call him and ask him. Reckon I should ask him if he even caught the fish himself or did someone give them to him at the boat ramp, hmmmmm....... I also think some things are overrated, like opinions without facts to base them on....For a fact I have fished and ckd out every big worm style and type in the market place over the last 35 years and there are none that have the design or action of the RT Anaconda. Haven't seen any that look like this: http://www.ragetail.com/nextgeneration.html Regarding the point that we can catch fish on any big worm....I have caught fish on my daughters red shoe laces but I wouldn't risk a National Tournament on it. ;D Smile, it's gonna be allright Big O www.ragetail.com Quote

Super User Sam Posted December 4, 2008 Super User Posted December 4, 2008 Hey Big-O, Great report. Can't wait until this spring, or at least March, to go out and fish them Carolnia rigged on Gaston and Kerr. Merry Christmas Quote
TournyFish001 Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I have heard great things about that bait around here- especially on a C-Rig. I'd like some green pumpkin 10"ers myself Quote

But SK guys dont always tell the truth -Cochran on G'ville winning with a "Wild Shiner" which was really a Pointer -Cochran on the 3 Rivers getting a top 5 finish in the Classic with a Strike King Series 1 and 4s which were LC's -KVD on Wissota with a 3x Zero when you can clearly see a Yamamoto bag laying the front deck These are just 3 example that jump into my head. Super User fishinfiend Posted December 5, 2008 Super User Posted December 5, 2008 These are great baits that have great action. They have produced well for us. Spotted bass love these things Quote
moby bass Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Nobody locally carries them so it's a moot point for me. Nobody carries 6/0 hooks around here either. In fact, I was at Cabelas in WV about a month ago, I couldn't find them there either, unless I just missed them. :-? Quote

Super User fourbizz Posted December 5, 2008 Super User Posted December 5, 2008 I also think some things are overrated, like opinions without facts to base them on.... lol. Its a good looking worm. Kinda partial to 10" PW's and my 16 inch handpours though. Quote
Mattlures Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I like 5/0 ofset worm hooks. I also like the Rage tails Quote
mike bat Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 i love 10inch power worms ... but after looking at the pic ,, i like the design ... theres no doubt that worm will get slamed ... i like that big ribbon ,, in fact im getting some of these .. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted December 5, 2008 Super User Posted December 5, 2008 Either way the RT is a superior worm and is truly different looking than any other on the market.Think,it is not just the way it looks but the way it sounds or the vibration it puts off under water.Different is usually a good thing when fish are fed a constant diet of plastic baits. Big-O Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Hey Group, first let me apologize for being so defensive in my previous post response, after all everyone is entitled to their thoughts as this is exactly what this terrific forum is all about...personal thoughts and ideas about anything and everything 'Fishing'. I try to see something positive in everything, regardless of the first impression but I missed the boat on this one and got left at the dock. With me, SK has always been completely truthful and up front on everything we've done together so I kinda like'em, plus alot of those guys are my close friends so maybe I'm a bit protective. I'm sure that they wouldn't have signed a long term license agreement with me if they didn't trust my integrity or my ability to provide them with unique and innovative designs. I've never tried to be like anyone else, wheres the fun in that....plus I'm old and I'm not gonna change. For those of you who have become my friends and support my efforts, A Big O THANKYOU, and for those of you who are not so sure, Big O UNDERSTANDS, been there too. I will still try to be the first to congratulate you on your fishing feats regardless what bait you use...BR is RT's Forum home and everyone here has been an integral part of my decision making. As for what I'm doing now and 'what do I have in store for you guys next' Hold on to your jocks and socks boys and girls....I gotta lotta mo!! It's also a great time for all of us to poke our chest out and hollar HO HO HO and MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL and be safe during the holidays. Big O Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 5, 2008 Super User Posted December 5, 2008 Well, I don't find any comment that seems "defensive" to me. Those of us that have fished the Anaconda love it and have had some pretty good luck with the bait. In the other thread, I found everyone's hook suggestions interesting. However, even though "You da MAN!" I'm still not going to fish an Eagle Claw! Quote
tyrius. Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 The only thing that I don't like about the anaconda's is that we had to wait so long to get them! > The price is a little steep too. The shads and chunks are great. I used the chunk to catch my PB (more than doubled my old PB) this fall (which for me is long gone). The shad is just a fun bait that you can fish ANYWHERE. I'll be stocking up on lizards and anacondas over the winter and they'll get used next year. To those that think the rage tail is just another piece of soft plastic then you should buy some and try them out. They have action unlike nearly all other baits. And when the fish want a bait with a lot of action then these will be the ticket. Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted December 5, 2008 Super User Posted December 5, 2008 I'm still not going to fish an Eagle Claw! Why not? I thought everyone likes dull, rusty hooks Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 5, 2008 Super User Posted December 5, 2008 Try em you might like em Quote
tyrius. Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I'm still not going to fish an Eagle Claw! Why not? I thought everyone likes dull, rusty hooks They're far from dull. In fact, I've taken a pack of Eagle Claw worm hooks and Gammie worm hooks (same size and everything) and examined them closely and was unable to discern any difference. They both caught on my fingernail with the same pressure, I noticed no differences in looks, etc, etc. The notion that Eagle Claws are dull is, in my opinion, unfounded. Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted December 5, 2008 Super User Posted December 5, 2008 To each his own. I have not had good luck with them. I am glad you like them. Quote
