I caught this Bass on a white spinnerbait in South Carolina. I did not have a working scale with me but it was 24.5 inches long.

Have I finally caught a double digit bass or am I dreaming? What do you think it weighs as I released it soon after the pictures.

:D

Thnx

That's a beauty, CONGRATULATIONS!

"On average" a 24.5" largemouth weighs 9.0 lbs.

Source: NYS Department of Environmental Conservation

Note: Some of the top 100 "certified bass" recorded in Texas

are less than 24.5", so it's certainly possible that your bass

was a DD. The 24.5" on the attached list weighed 15.38 lbs!

Nice bass, congratulations. Poor picture, too bad, need a flash, looks like I took it.

If the measurement is mouth closed, agree the bass is about 9 lbs, (9.2) unless it's a heavier bodied bass then the dark photo shows. Try to wrap a piece of line around the bass next time for a girth measurement, then it's possible to calculate the weight more accurately. I use 75% of length for girth for LMB in your area, could be 80% and that changes the weight to 9.8 lbs, very close to a 10.

PS; L x L X G/1200 = weight in lbs

8-9 lbs but you can never tell by pictures.  Lose the pics and call it a 12.

It took me all of a week on this forum to see a thousand "what does this fish weigh?" posts including my own to convince me to go get a scale! I bought a cheap 20$ digital scale that fits in my tackle box. This way you don't have somebody saying your big bass isn't really that big yada, yada, yada. Instead you say look at this big _._ BASS!! Congrats on the fish and I'd say that thing is in the 8-10lb range.

nice fish!

agreed with above, scales are cheap.  I picked one up for about 8 dollars at a local store, tested it with some weights in my garage and it's pretty d**n close.

How tall are you and how big are your hands? Your hands look pretty big on that fish. I think its an 8. Buy  a scale bro, one that will get you ballpark is about 20$.

I recently caught a 24.5" bass and it weighted around 7.

I agree - great attitude/outlook, by the way.

I also agree it's probably around 8.5 or 9 pounds.

My PB was also exactly same length - 24.5 inches, her head and overall shape seem similar to yours (although hard to tell from photo)

Difference was mine was just about to Spawn - HUGE belly, and she weighed 9 lb, 12 oz.

Hope that helps.

thats one great bass man!!!!!!!

i hate the whole pic estimation process though,

its nearly impossible to get it right.

id have to say at least a 9.......

but it could go into the 10's....

who knows,

all i know is that you caught an amazing bass that anyone on this site would love to catch....

good job.

I agree with this! I have a Berkley $20 scale that is actually very accurate! I say 7-8 1/2lbs easy! I have caught 24" bass that only weighed 7lbs though!

We actually had a scale an hour before I caught this fish, but my brother-in-law tripped on his travel humidor and broke it. He's a pretty big guy and he crushed it. He's a great guy and I am trying to get him into fishing even if it means he just casts a bit and smokes cigars in the back of the boat with a beer.

He just bought me a new scale so hopefully I won't have to ask "how much does it weigh", I'll just be able to post the pictures.

Thank everyone and we will call it 9#s. Back to reading evryone's great tips and advice and trying to catch that 10# plus.. :)

I like your attitude for not being offended or blowing up on everyone for trying to give an honest answer based on a pic. Most guys are offended right off when they hear a best guess estimate and go on the defensive side. I am never good at guessing fish pictures but I do agree with the consensus of the group. Great fish and welcome to the forum.

Here's a better picture of the fish I caught so if it's less than 9#s, please be honest and let me know. I promised my Dad I would catch a Double Digit Bass like I did playing the Wii fishing game with him and my older sister. He asked me to catch it before I am 50 so I have 4 more years to keep the promise.

When my Dad was sick, I bought him the Wii fishing game so at least he could do some type of fishing, even if it was only a game on TV. He loved it and it was the last physical thing he could do before The Man up above took him from us less than a year ago.

Father's day was hard this year,  but I wanted to wish all of you Fathers, or Men who represent a Father to a child, a Happy Belated Father's Day.

That includes you guys who may be dating someone who has children. You may not be their Father, but you may be the best Father figure they may ever have. They may not realize it today, but as they age, those children sure know what a day out fishing really is all about. It's not the fish you catch, it's the time you spend untaggling their line, patiently showing them how to cast, and just sitting listening or saying nothing.

Life is just like fishing- . The best things or the best fish sometimes takes a little time. If you spend the time with yours kids now, they sometimes don't swim straight, but, because you put your time in with them when their young, , the rewards will be bountiful.

Missing my Dad.

Super Catch!

Based not on formulas but founded on all that I've experienced, combined with the mean statistics from several sources.

The mean weight of a 24.5" bass of average girth is 8-1/2 lbs.

If she were sloppy fat, she'd weigh more, but your bass has a nice physique.

I'll take an 8-1/2 pounder any day of the year
