what would be the best lure to use in a weedy area? i always seem to find myself jerking so hard to get my lure loose from weedy areas that it gets caught in a tree behind me.

Soft plastics like a *** Finesse worm or Duper Fluke are both awesome choices for the green stuff.  Also a A.B. Strokin Toad when the water is a bit warmer.

Another technique that I really got them with the last few months was to take a Rabbit Dog Spinnerbait and rip it through the grass.  I could throw a toad 10 times at the same spot, then the spinnerbait, and BLAM!!!  They would crush that spinnerbait

All of the suggestions above but it depends on what kind of weeds your dealing with and how thick they are. Are they blanketing the bottom or matted on top? Or both? Are the weeds just under the surface?

I could give you a list of lures or techniques a page long but not sure what kinds of salad your dealing with.

Matted-Spro Frog

Partially Matted-KVD Swimming Jig

Emergent-1oz tungsten weight and sweet beaver

Submerged 0-3ft-Willow leaf Spinnerbait

Submerged 3+-Cordell Spot-Royal Shad

It also depends on the type of grass but these are usually my first choices.

Thick meaning choked to the top- Frog.

Thick but not choked- T-Rigged jerk bait.

Semi thick- T-rigged worm or jig or senko.

Pitchin a jig will work in all 3.
