OP: I never, ever would have given that guy a fish.....especially after he was being a jerk.

Same here.....

That was way to disrespectful in my eyes.

I guess I might look at it differently next time, but at the time I thought I did the right thing.

I had a situation like that. ...

Out front of my old high school there is a pond about 2 acres in size. No one fishes it but little kids with wally world poles. I got a new rod and was dying to try it out so down to the pond I went with a strike king spinner. As soon as I cast I have some stupid high school kids start laughing at me for fishing in the pond that they throw all thier crap into.  :'(

I blow them off and the next cast pull out a 2.5lber. They all start freaking out.

Needless to say it was a nice suprise. 8-)

Went back several times after that only to get skunked. :-/

Its all good though. :)

What's up with people giving away bass!?! Geez, catch and release or catch nothing in the future!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to respectfully disagree with you. I know people that don't make alot of money so they fish to help feed the family after work. I personally have no problem of keeping a few for the plate or giving a person a fish that needs it.

In some ponds that has an over populated system, taking a few fish for the plate can be benificial to the whole system.

back on topic, that pretty cool how you handled the situation. it speaks well of you to let things slide so easily. you have my props!

Motfia

I'm with you Motfia. Although I'm a C&R guy 99% of the time it's not going to hurt at all to keep a few here & there. I mean come on, when my grandfather was growing up there wasn't such a thing as C&R. You ate what you caught. Heck, C&R didn't really pick up steam until about 10-15yrs ago. So if you think about it, all that time of people keeping a lot of what they caught, by your theory, we would have such a hard time finding any bass. But that's just not the case. Kinda blows that MYTH out of the water.

With the growing popularity of bass fishing I understand that it is more important then ever to practice C&R but it is NOT going to hurt the general bass population keeping some here & there. As a matter of fact it's actually going to help some lakes survive by taking bass out of them from time to time.

Stepping off my tiny insignificant soap box now. :D

By the way I NEVER keep a trophy bass. That beauty is going right back in the water right after CPR.

A few small ones here and there yes! I will occasionally keep 1-2 super dinks for my mom who like eating them(very rare). He stated that it was a 3lb fish he gave away! IMO, By NO means is keeping a fish that size helpful to anything! Just my personal opinion, that is all!

I would agree with you if this was the biggest fish I ever caught out of this praticular lake, but this was like the 10th bass over 3lbs I have caught out of this lake this year.

The one in my pic was 6lb 10oz and a handful of people saw me catch her, but she made her way back in to the lake and I didn't care who objected to me sending her back. I would of never kept, or given away a fish that size.

Since I have caught so many over 2-3lbs I didn't figure it would hurt to keep just one.
