EastTexasBassin Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Yesterday was my son's first fishing trip. We went out to the lease in East Texas, where the land owner was holding a family BBQ and fishing tournament. During the BBQ, I tried to get my son to catch his first fish. He's only 16 months, so he can't cast yet but he can turn the handle on his reel. I put a bit of bread on a brim hook under a bobber, made a few casts, and let him reel it in. He did get a hit that took his bobber under for a bit, but didn't get a hook in the fish. I don't think he noticed, though, he was looking at his reel while turning the handle. We'll keep practicing at home and I'm sure he'll catch his first fish next time. I did win the tournament. It was only a $5 pay-in to fish, winner take all. There were 13 anglers, so I won $65. This was the first time I've fished in any type of competition, so for now I can say I've won every tournament I've ever fished, lol. I hope to fish some real tournaments soon. I caught all of my fish on a jig w/ a ragetail lobster. Thanks for the win Big O!!! It wasn't even close. I could have stopped after the first hour and I still would have won. I'm gonna put the money in my 'boat fund', which my wife started for me last year. Quote
Big-O Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Very Cool ETB and those family fishing trips pay big dividends in the future for everyone involved. Wish all families could figure that out.... Glad you had fun and came away with a memorable time Big O www.ragetail.com Quote

Well if you ever need anohter mode, the lightning McQueen is a good one. I like it with an extra fast tip and medium action. I find that the sensitivity is very good and its not too brittle and likely to shatter as easy as say the Spongebob Squarepants line is. Ofcourse, if money is no option, go for Spiderman. You just can't beat it, its got its own special polymer line that science has yet to figure out. That matched with the strength, sensitivity, and light weight and you have an all round winner. Quote
basswitch Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 He's so cute! I miss mine being that little. Quote

SammyLee Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 When I start trying to remember back as far as I can, I remember being at a lake with my Dad. The boat was on the beach and I was trying to fish. I found a picture of that day and it was dated 1959. I was born in September of 1954. I must have been about 3 and a half. A child's brain and mind are being formed here and honestly, I think these things affect our personality for the rest of our lives. Good for you and your son! We all need to take a child fishing. Most will love it forever and it will give them a gift to their spirit. Children - Pay attention to them, be kind to them and take them fishing! Quote
