joshuaryan Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Do you guys actually go fishing for carp? When I'm bass fishing those things are very distracting! They jump in the weeds, making all kinds of noise having us think they were big bass around. On those days when the bass don't bite, I kind of want to catch those things just for the heck of it. aarogb Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 I have always heard that doughballs did pretty good. Quote
mrlitetackle Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 ya once when i was younger i tried to target them..... in the neighborhood where i lived, every time they cut the grass huge floating piles of it would attract the carp.... they always just feeded on the floating grass, so my buddies and i decided to put a small hook loosely into half a slice of bread (so it would float in the grass clippings) and we hooked up with quite a few that way.... it was fun as a kid, and the large ones put up a good fight for about 30 seconds or so.....but then they just kinda die off and get really sluggish.. their a pretty weak fish for the size they can attain. tyrius. Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Common carp fight like mad. They don't typically jump and do acrobatics, but they pull like a freaking beast. I actually just setup an old baitcast combo to specifically target carp. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 My son and I start every spring by fishing for them before bass season opens. Good fun and they are a smarter fish than most people think. I have also found a .410 shotgun loaded with 3" #6's (full choke) works well on them at close range if they are at that invasive stage. Mattlures Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 In Europe Carp fishing is HUGE. its similar to our bass fishing. Carp are extremly werry fish. They spook easy and fight like heck. They will pull you through cover if they can and they get huge. Carp are cool. In most cases theycause no problems and dont hurt other populations. Its the shallow muddier lakes that they can have a negative effect. I highly recomend going after carp. I use a small trebble on 6lb light spinning outfit. I use a soft bread ball(to hard and you wont hook them) and no weight. catching a 10-20lb carp on ultalight gear will teach you how to play out a fish. I have always heard they taiste bad but I am going to try one soon. Quote
