Super User Long Mike Posted May 27, 2009 Super User Posted May 27, 2009 Went fishing last week at a private game reserve in NE Missouri called Trophy Country. The first day went OK, but on the second day, on a different lake, Ghoti and I boated about sixty bass! Most were in the one to three pound range. The great majority of the bass were caught on Rage Tail Space Monkeys. I used the SMs on an Evolution shaky-head jig. The Monkeys were soaked for a week or so in JJ's magic. Ghoti T-rigged his without JJ's and did just as well or better. Those bass seemed to love those baits! Thanks to Big-O and Rage Tail for such great lures. One point I would like to make is that I have little experience fishing a jig. I knew the bite would be subtle, but I had no idea how subtle it could be. I truly believe that the JJ's scent caused the bass to hang on to the lure just long enough for me to feel their presence an then set the hook. Quote

Super User CWB Posted May 27, 2009 Super User Posted May 27, 2009 Soaked a bait in JJ's for a week? Wow. That thing must have been pretty potent if there was even anything left of it. Sounds like you guys had a great day Mike! Quote

Super User .ghoti. Posted May 28, 2009 Super User Posted May 28, 2009 Who could ask for more, indeed. We had a great trip. Not the best I've ever had at this unique place, but a great time. Four of us made the journey. Me, Long Mike, my brother Mike and my buddy Steve. I fished with Long Mike Tuesday and Wednesday. The first day we fished two different strip pits with not much to show for it. We caught about 25 fish between us. I lost the big fish of the trip when it jumped and spit my Space Monkey back in my face. While Long Mike and I were being puzzled, brother Mike and Steve, fishing two other pits put about 120 fish in the boat. On day two, we all went to a new lake. They have built a dam that has to be close to 200 yards long, backing up 5 smaller likes into one big one. When it's full I'm guesstimating it at around 800 acres. By fall this is going to be great fishery. It will be the most structurally diverse body of water on the place. Long Mike and I put better than 60 fish in the boat. Brother Mike and Steve got 100+, including the big fish of the trip; a 5.2 that fell for Steve's lizard. Day three, and Mike and Mike left after breakfast, forcing Steve and I to forge on without them. A tough task, but we were up to it. We fished until 1:00, and put 50+ fish in the boat, on yet another lake. Good company, good food, some fine wine and whiskey, and a whole bunch fish willing to come out and play. Who could ask for more. Quote

Uncle Leo Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Here I was, the whole time, fully expecting the punchline of "and I didnt even soil my depends today" At least us old guys have enough sense not to let our drawers get soiled like you young guys. We even keep fishing, even when the bite is tough and never make excuses. Great trip guys, way to stick with it, I am sure the whiskey tasted good after a good day of fishing. Quote
