ptomacbass Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I was wondering what trailers you guys use for jig fishing in the winter. I have some denny brauer chunks and zoom super chunks. I am looking for trailers with little to no action. I might try the zoom big salty chunks. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted November 22, 2008 Super User Posted November 22, 2008 I have trailers from 1" to 10" long. I try several every trip to see what is working that day. Sometimes they like is small and sometimes they like it big, just like OH never mind. ;D Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted November 24, 2008 Super User Posted November 24, 2008 Same as summer...My favorite is the GYCB Flappin' Hog, the NetBaits Baby Paca Craw is a close second. 8-) Quote
Matt 825 Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 I use Pork mostly in the winter. If I use plastic I use a Paca Craw or Baby Paca Craw or if I am looking for a bigger profile I will use a hand pour chunk type trailer. Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I used to use paca craws and zoom speed craws, but these days I'll only put gycb flappin hogs on my jigs. I don't know what it is about these things, but they always catch fish for me. Quote

Super User Micro Posted November 25, 2008 Super User Posted November 25, 2008 RW's recommendations got me to try Paca Chunks, and they worked great yesterday in 41 degree water. Granted, all I caught was bowfin and blue catfish, but they produced when nothing else did. They smell pretty good, too. I never fished jigs all that much, but really tried it in earnest over the spring, summer and fall and the Netbaits have worked better for me than anything else. Quote
ptomacbass Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 i've heard that its better to use actionless trailers in winter. I used the paca craws for trailers on football jigs during the late summer and they had a lot of action. do they stiffen up and lose action during the winter? Quote
Danny1991 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I use Strike King Denny Brauer chunks and Zoom chunks year round. 8-) Never had much luck using trailors with lots of action :-/ Quote
MattStrykul Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Last winter I was very partial to the Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver and Smallie beaver, but since May I have been throwing the GYCB flappin' hog. I will throw it through winter too. The bait produces. Quote

I have found that you can still use the paca craw in cold water because if you are moving the jig really slow (like most do in the winter) then there is little to no action from the trailer. Still I prefer a pork trailer for cold water. Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I like finesse jigs with the 2.75inch yum trailer. Paca chunks kick too much, and so do ragetails, although any other time of the year I love those 2 trailers. But, when its cold, the yum trailers do the trick for me. Quote
