eagle claw lazer sharp trebles?

i usually replace stock crankbait hooks with owners but my local tackle shop was out of owners and gammy's in the sizes i wanted so i picked up some eagle claw lazer sharp trebles in 3x and 4x to get me by. the eagle claw 3x hooks look like my owner 1x hooks in terms of wire thickness and the eagle claw 4x hooks look like my owner 2x. anyone else notice how thin the eagle claws lazer sharps are compared to the competition?

btw, i had to sharpen every single point on the eagle claws to get them sticky sharp whereas most of my owners and gammy's come sticky sharp out of the package. of course, they cost twice as much as the eagle claws

My experience with the Lazer Sharp hooks has been that the points are way too fragile to be of much use.

JUNK!!! Plain and Simple!  Gamakatsu is king, than Mustad, VMC, Owner all come in second.  Eagle Claw is in its own class: JUNK

I'm with Tin, I've had some gammies that won't retain their shape. Daiichi are the numero uno in Treble Hooks.

Gamakatsu, X-Point, Owner, VMC and Mustad all make good hooks.

Eagle Claw is not it the same class.

My packages of Eagle Claw hooks state "American Made" and my packages of Owner, Gamakatsu, and Daiichi hooks state "Made in Japan". It kind of follows the auto industry as far as quality products.

Edited: I just found a package of VMC hooks stating "Made in France"

          That is really a shame when a French company can make a

Crappy hooks should be outlawed! There should be a sharpness test the company has to pass for their hooks, if its not as sharp as a gammy, its prohibited. Wouldn't that be great..

I wish Eagle Claw was close to the quality of Gama, Daichi, X point & Owner. If they were close I would gladly use theirs because they are made in the USA, unfortuneately their quality is unacceptable. I often tell people if you caught 7 with dull/ mediocre hooks you problably would have caught 10 with premium hooks. In my opinion the most inconsistent hooks are made by VMC, sometimes fairly sharp (though still not near as good as Gamakatsu etc.) but oftentimes as dull as Eagle Claw. I do feel that's it's easier to buy American with my rods which is why the majority of my rods ( I have over 30) are either Roque's or Loomis.

I agree with all the other posters, Eagle Claw hooks are complete crap. I have been using Mustad Triple Grip hooks recently and while they are not as sharp as the Gamakatsu hooks, once they are shapened they stay sharp for a long time.

It's probably closer to if you caught 99 with dull/mediocre hooks you probably would have caught 100 with premium hooks (if it's even that much).  There is no way that it is 7 and 10.  

The difference is noticable under close scrutiny but an Eagle Claw will more than likely penetrate only a fraction less than a Gammie or an Owner.

I still pay more for Gammies but just like rods and other high end equipment you pay a lot more for a little increase in effectiveness (ie, the return is not 1 to 1 as you pay for more expensive equipment).

I can tell you what sold me on Owner hooks. A few years back I had the chance to fish in Mexico for them nasty Mexican Bass. I went down with Gammie hooks and was breaking them. At lunch I asked the guide what gives and he recommended Owner hooks. I bought some at their tackle shop and never went back. I guess the proof is in the pudding. If it works for you then swear by it.

thanks, all, for the replies. like i said, i use mostly owners and gammies but bought the eagle claws cuz i was in a pinch. anyway, i been using them for my last two outings and they've been working out pretty well. i noticed on the eagle claw website that their "lazer sharp" line is their premium line. i do wish they were sharper out of the box but, once i sharpened them up, they've been holding their points pretty well. those that have had bad exeriences, were they with the lazer sharps or with the standard eagle claws?

I am an Owner guy through and through---from drop shot to trebles.  They have never let me down.  The "cutting" point work hooks are great and they never curl up like Gammy's.

You should never have to sharpen a new hook , that's why they are crap. JMHO

I sharpen new hooks all the time- but indeed the eagle claws are junkola for life
