BassmanDan Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 It's been 11 Years of chasing...countless hours and dollars spent in pursuit. Yesterday it all finally paid off on a tough high-pressure, northeast wind, fish don't want to bite kind of day. I've spent most of the last two weeks fishing until I'm exhausted and collapsing immediately after supper. But I bought a swimbait lure on Saturday... and I've never thrown a swimbait but that's what she wanted. Just threw it out and wound it back...go figure. I've thought about what I would do if I ever was lucky enough to catch her and to be honest I didn't know until that moment. When I saw the scale hit 10-1 there was no doubt she was going back- and then I got in such a hurry I didn't even get her measurements :. After she swam away and I had the pictures and memory 11 years seemed like just a beginning. Here's she is from both sides. Thanks for looking. Quote
IdahoLunkerHunter Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Thats one sweet fish... Congratz! Quote
paul. Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 welcome to the club dan. what a great story with a VERY happy ending. it's an awesome feeling isn't it? i'm so happy for ya man. but i have to disagree with part of what ya said - that part about being "lucky enough to catch her". after reading about all the time, energy, effort, thought, preparation, etc. you put into the chase, it doesn't sound like luck had much to do with it. you fished specifically for a fish like that and you caught it. a HUGE congrats on a HUGE fish. well deserved bud. but i warn you, catching a double does not quench the fire. sometimes it's like pouring gasoline on it. ;D you might not sleep very well tonight. savor this moment bro. as you've found out, it's something really special. as far as fishing goes, it don't get much better than this. congrats again, and best wishes to all of y'all that are "in the hunt" for a fish like this. dan's story goes to show that with patience and perseverance, bassin' dreams do come true. -HAWK- Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Congrats!!! Very nice fish, Do you plan to get replica mount? Quote
aarogb Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Thats one nice fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I live about 30 minutes from Raleigh. Did you get her from Harris lake? 8-) Quote
BassmanDan Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 Thanks for all the replies y'all. It's just now starting to sink in. Hawk- Since I was struck with "big fish fever" and didn't get her measurements I think I'll just blow up the two pics and put them in a frame. Dock_master3- I got her from Wheeler in one of their jon-boats. Harris is on fire right now though...it took 39 pounds to win a tournament over the weekend. and Paul...you're right about the gasoline thing... Quote
BOOYAH Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 CONGRATS!!!!!!! Thats awesome, someday I hope to hit dbl digits as well. Been chasing that dream for over 10 years now an hope it happens. I can't imagine how great you feel to finally get it done. Now you will be snaggin dbls all the time lol. Quote
Mattlures Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Judging from the weight and the pictures I would say she was about 23 1/2 - 24 length by 19 - 20 girth. yeah I know that will come out heavy on the calculator but I have weighed enough big fish to know the calculator isnt always right. Anways you can still get a replica that is very close just by the pictures and weight. A knowledgable taxidermist will have a many sources for replicas to choose from and based on the pic and weight should be able to match your fish. BTW congrats on joining the club ! Quote
indy basser Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Good lookin fish and possilby a better lookin hat. Glad to see Colts fans extend outside of Indiana. Quote
Mattlures Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Oh man I didnt notice the Hat, ha ha You guys must HATE my chargers!!! probably as much as I hate the Pats. It seems the Colts cant beat the Bolts, and the Bolts cant beat the Pats. Sorry for the hyjack. Congrats again on a beautiful fish. Quote
