Bassnajr Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Hey all..... I saw that my home pond was 60% clear of ice today and I couldn't resist trying a few of the X-Mas gifts I got this year. I went out with my BPS 7' 6" HVY rod, and Daiwa Millonaire reel and tied on a Reaction Strike swimbait. It was 34* with 25 MPH wind gusts but sunny skies. I fished from a dock around a large ice chunk.. . I didn't catch a thing.....but I didn't care!!! Just being out there felt great and I can't help but hope that Spring will be here shortly. (I am sure the Southern guys will get a good chuckle out of this...if they only knew how lucky they are!!!!!! ajr Quote

Reason why I'm asking is because I'm heading up to new jersey pretty soon for a weekend. I don't think your swimbait would produce in that cold of water but I understand you were testing your new stuff. I want to try a senko to deastick in that cold water. In the cold is a 4 inch senko the most productive? Quote
IDbasser Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I did the same thing a couple of days ago. It was cold and windy too. My hands got so cold it was hard to do anything with them after awhile. But it sure felt good!! Quote
Bassnajr Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 LC.. I'll let you know today... Supposed to get up to a BALMY 36* or so. I'll give it a try and let you know!!! ajr Quote

Bassnajr Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 Gottcha Tin... They are funky!!! ajr Quote
macjiger Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I can only dream of that right now. I have nearly 2 feet of ice on the lakes right now. Last weekend was the ice fishing derby, with over 500 cars parked on one lake, it looked like a parking lot at the mall. I still have almost two months to wait...sigh.... Quote
sodaksker Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 6 more weeks for me too. I am getting the itch. Quote
Bassnajr Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 LC Pointa.... I tried deadsticking a worm, no bites. I've also tried a jig, jerkbait, lipless crank, spinnerbait, shakey head (painfully slow) and a few other things. Nothing. Come to think of it, the only thing I haven't tried is my swimbait again. I caught a 5 lb. LMB on it in very cold water (no ice around it, granted) right before the snow came this fall, so I'll get back to you again!!! ajr Quote
ilovefooffur Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I'm not going to be on the water until late March. :'( Quote
