brgbassmaster Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I know im one of the fortunate guys that can fish yr around. But winter fishing has got to be the hardest fishing ever not to mention this lake is the hardest lake ive fished in my life. I have fished in alot of states from huge lakes to rivers and ponds and never had a problem catching bass. I went out again to elephant butte lake. i tried from 3ft to 20 ft and not even a bite. Tried dropshotting, jigs, cranks, spinnerbaits, shakey heads basically everything. I fished very slow and throughly sometimes my bait was in the water 10 minutes. I just dont get it how it can be that hard? Anywhere else i never had a problem fishing from spring till the water froze and the day after ice out, but this place is HARD. Ive tried points, coves, river channel, bluffs you name it ive tried fishing it. but anyway just thought i would blow off some steam. Guess im going to wait till prespawn. Quote
done Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I feel your pain. I have had so much trouble getting Bass in Lake Wylie this winter. Been skunked plenty. Just annoying. Now I came from Trout fishing, and I can always find some trout but Bass have been challenging. I found a mess of places, that I KNOW there had ot be bass around, could not land anything. Just frustrating. Hope spring gets better. Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted February 17, 2009 Super User Posted February 17, 2009 You and me both!! It has been reel slow down here. > Quote
dallas0996 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 This time of year you would probably be better off trolling for trout with a downrigger setup Or try to hit some of those MONSTER cats down by the dam...hehe... Quote
brgbassmaster Posted February 18, 2009 Author Posted February 18, 2009 ya i havent even tried for cats over here yet. i used to fish for cats all the time to. i might have to this summer. throw out some chicken liver. Quote
dallas0996 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 There are legends of VW sized cats in there...urban legends mostly I'm sure, though I guess some divers have seen some really good sized ones.... Quote
dallas0996 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 oh yeah...leave the mess of chicken livers at home...those cats'll hit all day on a jig n craw...more fun and less messy.... Quote
Sfrazier Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 just fish for carp with canned corn... on a serious note...Our local reservoirs in NorCal have been near impossible to get anything this winter Quote
