Super User roadwarrior Posted February 12, 2009 Super User Posted February 12, 2009 What are you going to do when you hook up with one of those babies weighing 300 lbs? Now that you know there are sturgeon where you are fishing, you might want to get a hold of Fish_Chris and find out how to fish for them. The big ones are a ball and the smaller ones are very tasty. Fish described the flavor and texture as resembling pork chops. Check it out! 8-) Quote
Drewster116 Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 Wish I could fish for them but they're actually illegal to fish for in Maine cause they're a protected species. and i knew there were sturgeon there cause there's really big ones that jump clear out of the water I'm guessing he was investigating my shad lure when I hooked him/her. was still a fun fight Quote

Super User firefightn15 Posted February 12, 2009 Super User Posted February 12, 2009 Cool kitten's! Ya, get hold of a 100+ incher and hang on! Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Nice fish. Always wanted to catch one of those. That one that you have though is a dink though. They grow to be one of the biggest freshwater species(Over 200 LBS). Very nice and rare catch even though hes small. How did he fight? Was it tough to bring in? Nice catch. Quote
IDbasser Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 We have sturgeon around here. People fish for them quite a bit. It is illegal here to take them out of the water, and they must be released immediately. Quote
Drewster116 Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 Yea I know it's a dink compared to the adult ones but this one was like a tank. I thought I had a 40+ inch striper. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 13, 2009 Super User Posted February 13, 2009 I believe the largest sturgeon on rod and reel is more than 400lb., they have been netted at 1500# I have caught them in the 60# range in the st clair river on nightcrawlers Quote
