-HAWK- Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Went out to Holiday park January 1st for some fishing with my brother in law. We caught 20 or so fish, the biggest went 2.5lbs. We also caught this weird fish, I think its a oscar not sure. (picture #1) On our way back to the ramp our motor just quits leaving us stranded about 3 miles from the ramp. This was around 4pm, by the time we had rowed the boat back to the ramp it was 7:30pm. :'( Overall not a bad day. Went out today to Lake Wellington to throw the Spro BBZ 1 shad for about an hour. Ended up with 3 fish, biggest one went around 3 pounds. (picture #2) The Spro BBZ1 has incredible action and is a must have for anyone throwing swimbaits. Also got some cool pictures of a gator and sunset. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 10, 2009 Super User Posted January 10, 2009 Can Lake Wellington be fished from shore? Our boat is strictly offshore in Hypoluxo on the icw. Quote
-HAWK- Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 Can Lake Wellington be fished from shore? Our boat is strictly offshore in Hypoluxo on the icw. Lake Wellington can not be fished from shore. Not only is the Lake surrounded by private communities, but all of the good fishing is out away from the shore. Quote
J-Salvati Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Holiday park is dead these days cuz so many people fish it that the fish have seen everything. Lately I've been going north on 27 and going to Sawgrass Rec Park.... I've had better luck there. What Kinda boat/motor do ya have? Quote

Lately I've been going north on 27 and going to Sawgrass Rec Park.... I've had better luck there. What Kinda boat/motor do ya have? It was a 12 foot aluminum mod V w/ a 25hp Yamaha. The problem ended up being contaminated fuel. > Quote
J-Salvati Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Oh that sucks. Hope all is well now though Quote
GLADES Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Holiday park is dead these days cuz so many people fish it that the fish have seen everything. Lately I've been going north on 27 and going to Sawgrass Rec Park.... I've had better luck there. What Kinda boat/motor do ya have? I disagree about Holiday Park. There are alot of huge bass (size and bags) caught out of there every year. The problem this year was the high water which is now receding. The place will be excellent from Feb - Aug. If you are fishing there curently, go south and get into the flats while the water is still higher. That is your best bet until the water drops and the fish move into the perimeter canals in the coming months. Quote
Btech Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Thats a nice fish (Pic1) looks colorfull That Spro BBZ-1 Is an awsome swimbait - i stocked up on them but havnt caught anything yet cant wait to get out and hit the water. Quote
J-Salvati Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I was just at Holiday Park this morning and didnt do too horribly...we boated about 10 or 12 fish the biggest being 4lbs...but like you said you really have to chase them back up in the flats... Quote
UrbanRedneck Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 That fish is odd for sure. Looks like some sort of hybrid with Oscar being in there, who knows what the other half is. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 30, 2009 Super User Posted January 30, 2009 Kinda looks like a myan Quote
J-Salvati Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 I was just gonna say it looked like a mayan cichlid(sp?) Quote
UrbanRedneck Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 http://fishbase.org/Photos/ThumbnailsSummary.php?ID=4798 I think that is what it is, a mayan cichlid Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 31, 2009 Super User Posted January 31, 2009 My spelling error mayan cichlid is correct Quote
Krzkev Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 The only thing odd about that fish being a myan, is that the false eye or little circle near its tail is not blue or turqoise and that is a charicteristic of the myan. Red or orange circle means it is some kind of oscar, which is also a chiclid species. Odd fish, probably realesed from a fish tank. Quote
Big-O Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Great goin' Hawk, photos are excellent Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
