BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 25, 2008 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 25, 2008 Greetings!  Just got back from a fantastic dinner featuring Muddy's Italian Cooking - WOW!!!  You guys  missed out on some excellent food!  There was enough for everyone, even those who wanted seconds.  We pigged out!!  Here's the fishing report for day one:  48 fish caught, biggest bass topping 8 1/2 pounds!  Not bad for cold front conditions, eh?   Tomorrow it's supposed to warm up 10-15 degrees, so the bite should be even better.
electrikal Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Hey folks. I want to extend my thanks to all those responsible for the 3rd Annual Roadtrip! While I didn't do so well ( caught 2, 1 keeper, 1 dink in three days), I had a great time meeting our fellow members. I'm gonna blame the bad weather (1st two nights down to 29 & 30, winds of 25 mph during the day) and my dang 6 mth old trolling motor crapping out on my second day out. Lost three speeds out of five, the two lowest (and most needed) really making it difficult to fish the shallow water and the wind in the main lake. I'm sure a better angler could have overcome all of that but so it goes. Â Enough of the excuses!! My personal thanks go out to Glenn and his wife, Kari, for developing a website that anyone from a novice to a professional can learn from. Both he and his wife are great people and I enjoyed meeting and talking with them. I'd also like to thank - ALPSTER for his hard work on the Roadtrip details MUDDY for the excellent meatballs! GHOTI and his wife for the Fish camp pasta dinner and allowing me to share a cabin with them. Â I never really thought about how much work the moderators put in on this forum (for free) and my hats off to the ones I met - ROADWARRIOR (who fished wtih me on the 1st day) and to the ones who had to stay behind, LBH & FIVEBASS - Thanks for all the work behind the scenes keeping this site safe and awesome!! Hope to meet you guys down the road (Kentucky Lake I hear) Â I decided to leave out Thursday morning to try and get my trolling motor repaired as here in Northwest Alabama, the smallmouth are really getting hot. When I left I believe AJ & Jimzee had the most largemouth caught and Jeff had cornered the spotted bass market catching at least 40 with Kari and Bob Lusk and 30 the day before with Senko77. Â Conditions were rough as stated above and the secret, for largemouth, was finding the warmest water available. Water temps ran from as low as 50 in some creek channels to 55 on the main lake. Pockets could be found that ran as high as 63 in shallow grass that had been shielded from wind and were exposed to all day sunshine. Unfortunately, with so much water to cover, I didn't locate them till Wednesday and the water was dropping making getting in them tough. High speed on a trolling motor really stirred up the bottom. Ghoti's wife caught a nice one on a Senko right after we drifted up but after turning the motor on I'm sure I spooked any remaining fish as I saw at least one nice one streak out to the deeper water. Â The guest speaker on Wednesday night was a fisheries biologist, Bob Lusk. He has built ponds and lakes for the likes of Ray Scott and Bill Dance. He shared his knowledge of the food chain and structure with us in a very entertaining talk. I understood him to say that he is writing an article to be published here at BassResource. Everyone should give it a read, especially those of you who fish small impoundments and ponds. Â To MassholeMike, who I had the privilege of fishing with - hope you tore em up. Great guy. If you live in his area, take him with you fishing. Â To Senko77, who I had the privilege of sharing a room with - hope you did well in the tourney. looking forward to hearing about it and thanks for the letting me try out the Mattlures bluegill. Â Would I do it again? Â You bet ya. You couldn't have a better bunch to fish and kick back with. Here's to all the people I met . Hope you all caught a PB. To the rest of you on the forum, don't miss out on another Roadtrip!! Â Tight lines to all. PS. Did I forget? Â BASSRESOURCE.com ROCKS!!!
Troutfisher Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Sounds like our members really showed their hospitality!
electrikal Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Yeah - makes me proud to be able to associate with everyone here. If I hadn't wanted to come back and get busy on the motor, someone would have given me a ride so I could fish that day, without a doubt. And now that I've checked out the Big G, I'll go back (I'm only 2 hrs away 8-)) & next time - look out Â
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 29, 2008 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 29, 2008 Excellent post, Electrikal! Keri and I had a great time meeting everyone there. My only complaint is that it didn't last long enough! P.S. Walked onto the plane in mid-70 degree weather, and walk off to be greeted by SNOW! Â AAARRGH!!
RiskKid. Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Well, the Bass Bus left my house this morning so I guess the trip is officially over for me. Great trip, some good fish although a bit slow due to nature and the TVA, outstanding food by Muddy and Ghoti, great fellowship and enjoyable programs each night after dinner. Congrats to Mass Hole Mike and Jimzee for the big girls they caught. It was good to see the folks I met last year and meet some new folks too. I'm looking forward to next year....and to steal a line from last year... No Excuses 2009......be there or miss out on a great time!
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 30, 2008 Super User Posted March 30, 2008 Geez, where do I start.... First and foremost, I would like to thank my gracious host Alpster for not only putting me up for the week, but also delivering a SWEET custom pitchin stick that was the *** of many on the trip The conversations to and from were first rate and very entertaining. Riskkid - one of the most generous gestures I have ever seen. This guy was at the trip and let us use his boat the entire time. Doesnt get much better than that. Thanks man. Roadwarrior - another great guy with a SICK book of pics. If you ever get the chance to sit and BS with this guy, take it!! Great fishing with you on the last day of the trip. Hope you ripped them at Pickwick today!! ghoti and wife - amazing cooks, amazing people. The dessert was too good for words!! From what I understand, I will see you in a couple months!!! CJ - Man, that boat is AWESOME. Again, if you ever get a chance to fish with this guy, TAKE IT!! After fishing with him, I realized that I have a lot more to learn about fishing. LOL Cant wait for next year!!! Masshole - You did great buddy!! I am so happy for you crushing your PB. Doesnt get much better than that. Thanks for the extras too. Sorry to hear about the luggage issues. Like I said, STAND ON THE DESK AND YELL. Someone will listen to you. Jimzee (and wife) and AJ - Best development of a pattern on a new lake I have ever seen. These guys got on a pattern, stuck with it and blew it up. On top of that, shared the info with everyone that asked and even gave up the hot spots on the lake. That says a lot about your characters. I am sure that DD is right around the corner too!! Glenn and Keri - Great website you have here. Thanks for bringing all us crazy people together for a week. I had a great time. Long Mike - That is a great guy right there. Many people see the guy that yells about proper spelling. I got to see the real person all this week and he is top notch. Dont worry Mike, I wont tell too many people about you. To the presenters (JJ's Magic, Sure Life, KVD Line & Lure, and Bob Lusk), great products and information. Click on the banners and buy from the sponsors!!! They are some good people. Anyone else I forgot, I am so sorry. Trust me that your company will not soon be forgotten. CANT WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR ALREADY!!! Wayne
