BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 12, 2007 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 12, 2007 You're Invited! The mods and I listened to your feedback, and I am pleased to announce the 3rd Annual BassResource.com Road Trip will be held at Lake Guntersville, Alabama on March 23-28, 2008!!! Some of the many reasons why this lake was chosen: 1. Maximum member participation 2. Reputation for numbers, variety and size (recognized "tour" lake) 3. Enormous shoreline with a variety of structure and cover 4. Best time of year to fish this lake (spawn should be in full swing) 5. Outstanding accomodations (reasonably priced) 6. Access to other lakes as contingencies arise (wind, rain and waterflow) 7. Relatively easy access overland or by air 8. No boat or car rental required 9. Guide services available 10. For those looking for "fishing alternatives" nearby Birmingham is a historic Southern City (which was voted the "Bass Capital Of The World" by Bassmaster Magazine subscribers). The fishing on the Lake is excellent that time of year. The bass are spawning starting around the second week in March and there are alot of bass, both largemouth and smallmouth. From that location you aren't far from the best Spotted bass water in the country. You don't want to miss this one! Book your reservations now! Here's the information: Lake Guntersville State Park is the headquarters for the event. We have reserved 13 Lakeside Cottages & 14 Chalets for arrival of March 23, 2008 and checking out on March 28, 2008. Both have a king bed in one room, and 2 queen beds in another. The Chalets have one bathroom and a tremendous view. The Cottages are on the lake, have 2 bathrooms, and are near the boat launch, BUT are about 1 mile from the hotel and chalets. Each cabin and chalet is $125 per night plus tax for a total of $141 per night. There are also 321 campsites for anyone with a camper (full hook-ups available) starting at just $17 per night. In addition, you may book a room at the newly remodeled hotel, which has a spectacular view and is adjacent to the chalets. There are several 1 and 2 bedroom options in the hotel starting at $98 per night. The wife and I will be staying there. For more information, visit http://www.guntersvillestatepark.com/ and http://www.alapark.com/parks/park.cfm?parkid=5 RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE BY YOU! They will fill up fast, so don't delay! Call 800-LGville to make reservations. You MUST mention group code CGBASS in order to get your reservation. You do not have to book it for the 23rd through the 28th, you can go longer or shorter. Just understand we cannot guarantee availability if you want to stay outside those dates. The cut-off date for people to make reservations is February 23, 2008. More information and news will be posted on this thread regarding who's going, who's cooking, who's bringing boats, who needs back seats, etc. Looking forward to seeing you there! '08 NO EXCUSES!!

BackOnTheWater Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 There is only one lake between my home lake and the big G. I'll be there. In fact, just yesterday a guy from the Chattanooga Fishing Forum and I set up an 8-hour guided fishing trip on the G for early November. This will be my first trip down that far. I just got my boat last July, and have just now gotten it capable of making a road trip. I should have time to get down there several times between now and then. It's HUGE! Get a map! 5 pounders all day long...a "WORLD CLASS" LMB fishery! A place DD dreams come true! I can be on Guntersville waters in 45 minutes from the house...1 to 1-1/2 hours to the prime fishing areas. teeheehee...hope ya'll don't get too tired to fish!
Super User Gatorbassman Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 I'll be there with my boat. I'm not sure if anyone is coming with me.
Super User cart7t Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 Just a thought. I realize it's still around 5 months away but are there any water level issues at the lake currently that could become an issue if the drought persists?
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 The water issues only involve dam release schedules. The Tennessee River is a commercial waterway which means a navigatable channel is always maintained. Even now, with rainfall totals 17" below normal, the reservoirs on this river are somewhat above "winter pool". The greatest risk is heavy rain resulting in the opening of the spillways. When the gates are open, the water turns to chocolate milk, but fortunately does not stay that way for long. This is a VERY controlled river/ reservoir system. Additionally, Logan Martin on the Coosa River is within reasonable driving distance. This is perhaps THE premier spotted bass lake in the country. This is a lake many may want to visit regardless of how the fishing or water conditions are at Guntersville.
Dirk_Jig---Lure Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 LBH is waiting to hear from work in regards to getting the time off and if he does,....I'M THERE!!!  It KILLED me to drop him at the airport last year and then turn around and drive home.  Those were 8 of the longest miles I've ever driven But I'm pretty sure no one saw me cry  :'( ;D
Super User Jimzee Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 Count me in. Â I can't wait!!! Â WOO HOO!!!! ;D
Super User Long Mike Posted October 13, 2007 Super User Posted October 13, 2007 Went to the Gunterville State Park website. Â It really sucks. Â Their map of the resort really, really sucks. Â Other than room rates, I learned almost nothing. Â From what I can tell from the Google Earth images, there are no boat slips available, and it seems as if nothing is convenient to anything else. Â Could someone please prove me wrong?
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 13, 2007 Super User Posted October 13, 2007 We will have some follow-up, but let's start here: http://www.alapark.com/parks/park.cfm?parkid=5
Super User Gatorbassman Posted October 13, 2007 Super User Posted October 13, 2007 Lake Guntersville State Park hotel is currently under renovation. Their website is also being redesigned. We will be one of the first large groups to stay in the new resort hotel after its completion. It doesn't have slips but it has a large ramp and plenty of parking. It's good that they don't have slips because most of the accommodations are a short drive from the water and securing our boats would be an issue. Guntersville is a huge lake and many of us will be pulling our boats to different ramps in order to access other parts of the lake. I have done some extensive research and this place is the best I've seen. It even has a decent golf course. I have heard nothing but good things about this lake during March. It is a big bass heaven.
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 13, 2007 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 13, 2007 Great link RW!
BamaBassn78 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 The water levels usually only have a fluctuation of 2-3 ft max. I have seen it flood so deep that ramps are unusuable. In Northeast Alabama we are offically 24 inches under on rain fall. HOPEFULLY we will get some much needed rain fall this winter or next year could be bad. Alot of the area creeks are drying up. FWIW, The ramp at the State Park is the best on the lake in my opinion and I have fished here for over 20 years. The ramp is either 4 or 5 lanes and has 2 30+ft L shaped floating docks. There is a dock available for people that are camping in the camp ground. The grounds are gated and you must have a key code to get into the campground. I have maps of the entire lake also...
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 So tater, we gonna get to meet ya?? Appreciate the info
BamaBassn78 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 So tater, we gonna get to meet ya?? Appreciate the info If nothing happens between now and then I'll be there. Â Thats about an hour drive for me the State Park.
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Cool man, can't ask for much more than that. If you can't come, can I rent your boat? Â ;D
BOOYAH Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Sounds like a good time, and only 5 1/2 hours from me. If things go well I hope to be there!!
Troutfisher Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Well, the good news is I'll have my license by the end of this week. Bad new is, I don't think my parents will let me drive from West Virginia to Alabama by myself to fish with people I met on the internet for a week. Â ;D Maybe in a few years.
