Im feeling the Sunday night blues. Heres my story. So I started out the morning by throwing a White Chatter bait at the bank before loading up the boat to head out. After a few casts with my new bait, I land a nice 2lb Bass. So from there we head out on the boat into some perfect weather. Air temp 65 degrees, water temp 72 degrees with a light breeze. After fishing for about an hour with no luck, the wind really starts to pick up. With the wind picking up and the fishing really starting to stink, I was just about to call it quits. When we come across a spot that looks pefect on the Fishfinder. So I postion the boat and start working the area. Three casts Later BAM I set the hook into something that just doesnt budge. I work the fish for maybe 5 minutes before getting it to surface. The bass semi surfaces and does an explosive head shake, showing me what I had on the other end of my line. She makes another run then seems to give up. I work the fish to within netting range and she comes to life, she explodes out of the water almost completly and throws the bait right in my face. :'( :'( >:( I just about threw my rod and tackle box out of the boat. I know its stupid to try and guess the weight of a fish you dont even land, But god the fish must have been at least double the largest fish I have ever caught. The day ended with one more small bass, and a lot of regrets. Anyway thats my rant for the Week. Theres always next time.

That  IS a sad day, now you MUST go back after her!

It always seems the big ones got the worst attitude, if they only knew that they were gonna be thrown back these things wouldn't happen!!!!!

;D ;D ;D ;D

At least you got to see her! IMHO that's better than hooking one (maybe :() having it make a couple of good runs and then have the lure come sailing back at you at the speed of sound ;)...

You now know where she lives.

Give her a week or two and go back.  ;)

The one that got away story , we all know where you're coming from. If you know where she's located  , you've still got a shot at her again.

Sometimes the fish you lose can be the most memorable. This past August, on the last day of my trip to Canada when it was too windy to venture out beyond the bay where the cabin was located, I hooked and lost a decent pike. In reality it probably wasn't more than 32 or 34 inches long but it took my drag pretty good and I lost it deep. Still, it sticks in my memory more than most of the fish during that trip. So, 'tis better to have hooked and lost than to never have hooked at all. It will forever remain in your imagination and will be something to shoot for in the future.

I love looking at the positive on things.  My last fishing trip which was about three weeks ago.  I went to a lake about thirty miles from my house that I grew up fishing.  It's loaded with nice bass but access there is VERY restricted so you can now only fish the dam portion from the bank.  Anyway, it was chilly with a stiff breeae so I decided to throw a crankbait.  I caught a couple dinks then worked my way near the spillway.  This area is choked with brush and timber.  I didn't get anything in this area for a while then finally caught a couple more dinks.  I finally decided it was time to head home so I said one more cast.  I cast and my bait just stopped in the water.  I thought I was hung up on a log with my crankbait until I felt it move.  I pulled and released at least ten times and it finally came out.  I fought hard and I finally saw it.  It was by far my biggest bass.  My previous biggest is 9lb 13oz and I estimate this one was in the 12-14lb range.  Needless to say it thrashed it's head about 10 feet from the bank and threw the bait.  Of course I was disgusted but I just smiled and packed up my stuff.  It was my last cast till I can catch a warm day over the winter and it was definatly one to remember.  I'll get her during pre-spawn when she's gained a couple pounds.  ;)
