I was fishing this evening and noticed that the shad were schooled up heavy in the points I started fishing the points hard to. I threw topwater, jerkbaits, crankbaits, worms, and jigs. Never got a bite. It was a sunny day water temp around 68 very calm and somewhat clear. It was getting late so i decided to fish some good cover on the banks came to an old tree submerged under water threw in a jig with a crawfish trailer and hung a 3 pounder. Very next one I came to I missed one and caught another one at the next one. It got dark on me quick but I really felt like i was onto something and could've bagged some good bass.

Sounds to me as if you put one together. Remember, there are always more than one pattern working on a lake and they can change hourly due to wind direction, water conditions, location of bait, as well as any number of outside circumstances. Good job on recogonizing what you had going.

I think you might have got onto something there good job.  I have found a pattern like this before when the wind was up, they were out on the shad, and when the wind stopped, they were on shallow wood.  Hope you continue to stay on those fish, good job.

Isn't it awesome when you figure things out? Getting on a good pattern is great, even better when you figure out what the big fish are eating.
