Salmon and steelhead season

Here are some pictures of some salmon and a few steel head from this season so far. All fish were caught fly fishing, and were released.

really? y is that? overfishing? our creek is open from the 4th saturday in april till the 30th of september. After the 30th we have to fish south of a certain bridge, till new years where we have to fish south of bridge even further downstream. I guess this way our fishery is protected from overfishing.

The number of salmon returning to our rivers are at a staggering low.  They aren't a 100% sure why, so while figuring it out they banned commercial fishing and the west coast. and 95% of recreational fishing in our rivers.  There are some stipulations, like a certain stretch of 1 mile of 1 of our rivers is open for 1 week of every month or something like that.  It sucks!!!!

Catching salmon in the river is awesome!  I use a spinning rig, so my methods are a little bit different than a fly-rodder, but here's what we use.  A 3-way swivel with a 1oz or so weight on one part and a leader with a fly or simple octopus hook with a spawn sack or skein.  Good times!

Great stuff!  Living on Lake Ontario affords me with tons of salmon and trout fishing year round.  For the past month, the kings have been running strong, though now its petering out a bit.  The browns are stacking up in the lake, waiting for the small creeks and streams to open, and a few of the big rainbows have made their way back downstream, after holding in deep pools all summer.  Trout fishing, especially winter steelheading, has extended my fishing to a year round hobby .

ive got a cheap daiwa 9'6 9wt with steelhead mastery line. It does the job but its really heavy and not reliable. I am getting a Redington rs4 10' 8wt for the spring

Yeah there is barely any salmon left in our creeks right now, now's the time for fall and winter steel heading. Since bass season opens last Saturday in July, this gives me fishing to do in between seasons. And after labour day I don't get out on the lake to often either so the salmon keeps me busy.
