Josh VanderMeer Posted October 22, 2008 Author Posted October 22, 2008 Very cool pics man. I"m envious right now. All of our rivers are closed to salmon fishing. really? y is that? overfishing? our creek is open from the 4th saturday in april till the 30th of september. After the 30th we have to fish south of a certain bridge, till new years where we have to fish south of bridge even further downstream. I guess this way our fishery is protected from overfishing. moondog Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 now thats some nice fish photos and the water youre fishing looks good too. Quote
rfrazier Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Nice fish... must be a blast on flies. What weight do you use? Quote
Branuss04 Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 The number of salmon returning to our rivers are at a staggering low. They aren't a 100% sure why, so while figuring it out they banned commercial fishing and the west coast. and 95% of recreational fishing in our rivers. There are some stipulations, like a certain stretch of 1 mile of 1 of our rivers is open for 1 week of every month or something like that. It sucks!!!! Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted October 24, 2008 Super User Posted October 24, 2008 Looks like alot of great fishng there! Send me a "how to" manual. ;D Quote
kayl. Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Catching salmon in the river is awesome! I use a spinning rig, so my methods are a little bit different than a fly-rodder, but here's what we use. A 3-way swivel with a 1oz or so weight on one part and a leader with a fly or simple octopus hook with a spawn sack or skein. Good times! Quote
fishizzle Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 I've been to the Salmon run in Polaski, NY Salmon fishing is a challenge to land them with all the rocks great fish, thanks Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 24, 2008 Super User Posted October 24, 2008 Great stuff! Living on Lake Ontario affords me with tons of salmon and trout fishing year round. For the past month, the kings have been running strong, though now its petering out a bit. The browns are stacking up in the lake, waiting for the small creeks and streams to open, and a few of the big rainbows have made their way back downstream, after holding in deep pools all summer. Trout fishing, especially winter steelheading, has extended my fishing to a year round hobby . Here's a king from last month: Quote
Josh VanderMeer Posted October 24, 2008 Author Posted October 24, 2008 Nice fish... must be a blast on flies. What weight do you use? ive got a cheap daiwa 9'6 9wt with steelhead mastery line. It does the job but its really heavy and not reliable. I am getting a Redington rs4 10' 8wt for the spring Quote

Here's a king from last month: Yeah there is barely any salmon left in our creeks right now, now's the time for fall and winter steel heading. Since bass season opens last Saturday in July, this gives me fishing to do in between seasons. And after labour day I don't get out on the lake to often either so the salmon keeps me busy. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 24, 2008 Super User Posted October 24, 2008 Let me know if you ever make to my side of the Lake Quote
