mackkie Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 I'm looking for quality spinnerbaits to buy, and was wondering what you guys use, and recommend as some of the best out there. Thanks! Quote
SHIMANOFAN Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Spinners are usually my go-to baits. Having used most of them I generally prefer Strike King or Terminators with Booyahs running close behind. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 There are so many good spinnerbait brands it is crazy!!! I personally like Terminator, Picasso, and Strike King spinnerbaits. Don't buy cheap 99cent sb's, they may work, but they won't last long, and they def don't work as well as a quality spinnerbait. Others may contend this, but I think you only need 3 maybe 4 colors. white chartruese white and chartruese black Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted November 10, 2008 Super User Posted November 10, 2008 aside from what has been mentioned....I like the Stanley Wedges and Bleeding Hart baits Quote
SDoolittle Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 #1 Strike King #2 Terminator I agree with Bass fisherman that you only need those few colors, but I would add bleeding white to that list. Quote
BirdNestBen Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 I hate to say it, but that chatterbait sure gets more bites than anything I throw in white/chart.---- i need to get a good spinnerbait rod and a good trailer hook, as I think a trailer hook is a must with this bait......... 2. Booyah Quote
franklinfishfinder Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 I only fish with Terminators and Buckeye Lure spinnerbaits, they make a blue back herring pattern that kills them around here. Own about 8 of those in that pattern and alot of Terminators with extra quick skirts. Quote
BirdNestBen Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 heeeeeeeee i knew i'd get some flack for bringing up that chatterbait... but i do get a lot of strikes on it :'( Quote
BASS fisherman Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Im just jaggin ya. If it catches fish, use it! For some reason though I can't catch a fish on a chatterbait, and usually end up snagging them and loosing them. Quote
DADto4 Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Strike king, Manns Classics, and Booyahs work well for me all in 3/8 white and chart. with a Berkley grub for a trailer Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 I used to call Booyah my #1 choice for spinnerbaits, but I have found Terminator spinnerbaits to be a higher quality/more durable then them. I have caught some nice fish on Booyah spinnerbaits, but I have used a few that had problems, such as a skirt flying off, a blade breaking off, and a blade that just wouldn't spin correctly. If you do get a booyah spinnerbait that works correctly, it will catch fish. Terminators I have yet to have any problems with, other then one which came with the skirt bunched up on one side, with no strands on the other side. The thing I like best about the terminator spinnerbaits are the wire its made out of doesn't bend. Booyah spinnerbait wires tend to bend after a good fish, although you can usually just bend them right back into normal place again. All in all terminators have less problems then booyahs from what I've observed. Other then that, they both catch fish. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted November 10, 2008 Super User Posted November 10, 2008 I beat the hell out of my Booyahs and Strike Kings. When I get finished with them the wires have bends in them from being bent back so many times. I've tried a few brands that appear to be built of higher quality but I generally stick with these because I have confidence in them. I use the ubiquitous white, white/chartreuse, and black colors. Brian_Reeves Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 I just started using the new Strike King Burner Spinnerbaits. They have a small, thinner blade and you can really move this thing in the water without it blowing out. It is perfect for what I use spinnerbaits for. Covering water and forcing reaction strikes!!!! I also have a bunch of other Strike King, Terminator, and Booyah spinnerbaits. All of them centralize on the aforementioned colors. However, I'm on the lookout for a special combination that I want for clear water. I want a clear or transparent smoke colored blade with a grey/white skirt for ultra clear water. I might have to suck it up and make my own on that one though. I have never seen one. Other than the occasional special color for special occasions, you can pretty much bank on white/chartruse, white, chartruse, and black. One thing I always recommend is downsize your blades!! You can get quality equipment from a number of online stores, but downsizing the blades seems to increase my catch ratio 100%. I also fish my baits very, very fast and those big blades have a tendency to lift the bait too high in the water and cause them to "blow out" Quote
basser89 Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 My Top 3 that I would suggest are Strike King, Picasso and RattleHead spinnerbaits. However, I'm on the lookout for a special combination that I want for clear water. I want a clear or transparent smoke colored blade with a grey/white skirt for ultra clear water. Hey Brian, While I don't have one like you have mentioned, I have seen one exactly like this. Let me do a little looking around and I'll see if I can figure who makes it. Quote
basser89 Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Brian, This isn't the one I was thinking of, but here's one that I've found so far. http://www.strikezonelure.com/ghost-blade.htm For some reason, War Eagle keeps popping in my head as the one I've seen but I haven't found anything on them yet as far as the cllear blade. I'll keep you posted. Quote

I've checked the brands that I know of but I just can't for the life of me remember who makes the one with the clear blade (I believe it's a single colorado blade). Quote
basser89 Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I think I figured out the spinnerbait I was thinking of. It was a spinnerbait that Zorro made with the clear blade. From what I've read, it looks like the company is out of business. I wonder if anyone sells clear blades so you could modify other SB's? Quote
mrbassky Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 war eagle are the best but you cant change the skirts followed by several other who are similar strike king (their better quality ones), piccasso (hard to find), and Buckeye lures (again hard to find). I am not crazy about Booyahs they are OK but they rust easy and are not the best quality similar to cheaper strike king stuff. Quote

I can make you one with a single clear colorado bait but you will not be able to burn it? The plastic blades are so light and swing so wide they have a lot of lift. I have been looking for the clear plastic willows for 3 years now with no luck When I get home I will see if I can powder paint some silver blades with smoke? Have you looked into the black nickel willows? They do not flash as much as silver and I have had good luck with them in clear water. Allen Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted November 13, 2008 Super User Posted November 13, 2008 5 years ago I swore off Strike King spinnerbaits due to very bad luck with getting poorly made baits, but now I am back using them almost exclusivly. The Premier Plus, and the KVD baits are fantastic. Quote

bass wrangler569 Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Nichols and War Eagle spinnerbaits exclusively. Best spinnerbaits out there IMO. Quote
