89MJ Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Went out on a log today to retrieve a lure. Slipped coming back in and stuck the hook way into the bottom of my finger near my hand. Had to drive home like that and slice my finger with a razor blade to get it out. Now tomorrow i get to go get a tetenis shot. This happen to anyone else? Quote
jax Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 That made me cringe just thinking about that. Luckily I haven't done that yet. I feel for ya. At least the shot will be cake compared to that!!! Quote
Handy Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 When I got into flyfishing a few years ago my youngest son(10) thought it would be cool to copy me with his fishing setup, a spincast setup using of all things a 2 1/2 inch spoon. I was unaware at the time what he was doing until I heard a scream and ran over to find out. What I found was the treble lodged in his scalp above his right ear. I lightly tried to tug it out backward but no go and told him I was going to drive it all the way through to then cut the barb and then back it out. I had to have my friend hold him while I did this. In the end he did quite well and never again tried to "flyfish" that way again. Paul Quote
Big-O Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Feel your pain 89MJ, and when you fish often there are gonna be these kinds of unfortunate misshaps. Lets face it....we can only sling, flip, cast, set, strike, whip, ****** and grab just so many times before one of those little sharp pointed objects wind up in the wrong place. On the good side just think, this will give you something to discuss and warn your kids and grandkids about from having first hand experience....... Hope you get better and get back after it Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 29, 2008 Super User Posted September 29, 2008 I have had a buzzbait hook and a crankbait hook slammed into my thumb and first finger, respectfully. Pushed buzzbait hook through thumb and cut barb and removed hook. Had to have surgery to remove the crankbait hook. Now I am very cognizant of the hooks and it is always safety first. Quote
aceman387 Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 i remember last year when my wife went fishing with me a rare occurance thank god because she brings luggage aboard my 9ft pond prowler when she comes including a book ,we were on the water at one of the stripmine channels and she had to go pee i forgot a pee cup so she says pull into this little cove it looks shallow i will just strip to my panties jump in and pee in the water , so i raced ahead of the other fisherman who were approching this cove also , they were probably thinking this guy has a hot spot ( i shouldnt say race how fast can a 35 thrust trolling motor speed you) so i got just ahead of these other boats whipped in the cove she says this looks shallow here (super clear water =misleading depth readings ) so were in a hurry here because the other fisherman are closing in on us so she strips jumps in what looked like 2 ftdeep was 4 or 5 ft deep she screams because the water is freezing and in the process didnt move her rod with a treble hook out of the way and the hook gets caught in her panties she gets done peeing struggles to get back in the boat because of the deeper than expected water and i cant help because im holding the rod tip up to keep the lure from digging in her butt she didnt get hooked but came close, in the meantime another boat passed us before she finaly dislodged her panties they just smiled and waved . aceman 387 Quote
fishizzle Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 nasty stories I had a thin guage worm hook with earthworm in my lip when my buddy casted in my 8' jonboat when I was 10. So he cried and said "don't tell you mother" what was i supposed to do? call it a lip ring when I got home? Quote
Certified Public Angler Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 My uncle came in the house with a cranks treble hook stuck in the meat of his shin. After a lot of cutting, pulling, and rubbing alcohol it finally came lose. It will happen to all of us one day whenever I rip a lure out of the water on a phantom strike and it comes flying at me I'm just covering my face and praying it doesn't aim for the groin. Quote
Tom H. Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I know that feeling all too well . My er visit was $572.00 just to get the d**n hook yanked outta my thumb . Quote

bpm2000 Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I took a BBZ swimbait treble to the calf a few weeks ago. Pushed out the hook, debarbed, and kept on truckin til the end of the day! ;D Quote
shorefisher Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 LBH has a good story about sinking hooks into digits. Myself I have this one: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1217385063/0 -Shore Quote

shutyrmouth Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 since were all sharing war stories. im 32 now, but when i was 10 or 11 i used to live on a lake. i got hooked 3 times in 1 year!!! 1st time was standing behind a guy on my neighbors dock. he casted and hooked me RIGHT above my eye. 1/2 inch lower and id be blind in one eye. then, a couple weeks later testing my drag by holding a small cork popper that i was using. the cork broke in half and buried the hook pretty well. the third time was the worst one. at my grandparents pond i caught a 2lber on a torpedo. so i get it on shore and jumps just as i was reaching down to lip it. so im hooked on one treble and its still hooked on the other. and it jumpin around of course. hahha. that sucked. my grandpa wasnt happy about my whining i can tell you that. haha. i got careful that summer. really quickly. greg Quote
