BassFishingMachine Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 How will megastrike work out if used for saltwater? Anyone tryed this? Now, I know one could say it wouldn't hurt to try, but I am afraid it actually might "hurt to try" because what if the scent turns off the fish instead of attracts them? I really can't say what megastrike is made with, and Im not asking for ingredients, I would just like to know what its suppose to smell like, and if you think it will work for saltwater species, mainly striper. Was thinking about rubbing it on sluggos, and other various striper soft plastics. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Probably not as helpful in saltwater because the fish generally tend to be less finicky. IMO, MegaStrike is great because (I believe) it makes bass hold onto your plastics longer. Saltwater fish seem to be less concerned for their health and just annihilate their prey, so I don't know if it will help, but I can't see how it could hurt. Just look at Roland Martin . He puts MegaStrike on every lure he fishes in every situation, on camera at least. One of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen on TV was Roland Marting fishing for giant Jewfish off of the Florida coast using about a 4 pound dead jack as bait. As he was rigging the bait up he slathered the fish up with MegaStrike while claiming it would help him land that huge fish. Absolutely ridiculous Quote
Bobby Uhrig Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Hey Easy There Tony -I pay big bucks for that to happen LOL> Just kiddding.Let me tell you something about Roland. He was never ever a big believer in "attractants". He had come to see what we do here with the amino acids as a base . After spending a lot of time with him he agreed about the theories. He started to use Megastrike. He said he could actually bring fish in the boat without even setting the hook. The fish would swallow the baits and he would hoist them in. No big deal right. Then he started using it more and more often. What it does is raise your confidence level also. We have filmed bass and other fish picking up baits and expelling them and you never even knew they hit the bait. They hold on to the baits and usually just swim away. Anyone -especially the kids can detect the strikes. They dont expell it and that gives you a better chance to set the hook -resulting in less missed fish. As for the question in salt water- -It works just as well in that environment. Strippers-trout -flounder-fluke- all to hold on to the baits. I will be coming out with a new Megastrike in 2009.Something I have been working on for almost a year.I will send samples of course here first to BFR members. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Nice post Bobby. I really do believe in the stuff, but my point was just that generally saltwater fish just slam baits aggressively and a lot of times hook themselves. I'm sure it works as well on saltwater fish, but there's less of a need for a fish really to hold onto the bait when saltwater fishing than when freshwater fishing for finicky bass. What's the new MegaStrike? What would you say is the primary difference from the current version, or can you not say? Quote
Infidel. Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Probably not as helpful in saltwater because the fish generally tend to be less finicky. I wish the saltwater fish where like that out here. I use it whenever I am inshore fishing. My wife and I were fishing in a harbor one day when we saw a ray swiming by. She tossed a spoon out in front of it that was was covered in Megastrike and let it sink to the bottom. The ray went about two feet past it, turned around and located the piece of metal and ate it. I had confidence in that stuff before but after seeing that, I never leave home with out it. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted November 14, 2008 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted November 14, 2008 Roland convinced me to at least try it. I found it in the tackle shop at highland point marina last summer. I have used it on every plastic bait I have thrown since. Not only does it at least hide the human scent, it lubricates the plastic and when you fish as much heavy cover as I do that makes a difference. Bobby - Can the 2009 version handle the heat better? I have to keep it in the cooler during the summer down here to keep it from running like water. Quote
